Love That Has No Fear

My husband and I love dogs but we haven’t had our own dog for a long time now. That is because of one dog that we say was our best dog and worst dog, Baron. Baron was our German Shepherd. He was very intelligent and learned things very quickly. We didn’t need a fence, he never chewed things up, he obeyed commands, he loved his family. The best dog ever! Except for the fact that he did not do well at kennels. He had separation anxiety. (In his senior years this intensified and he developed a fear of thunderstorms as well. I’ll save the story of his “worst” traits for another time.)

Because of Baron’s separation anxiety whenever we went on vacation we had to find someone to stay at our home and babysit him. It also required a list for the sitter while we were gone. When to feed him, how much to feed him, what certain behaviors meant, how much exercise he needed, etc… It became a very long “to do” list!

In our scripture passage for this week Jesus has just washed his disciple’s feet and foretold his betrayal. Jesus is leaving them soon and he has a “to do” list for them while he is gone. But instead of a very long list of things “to do” he just gives them one thing to do. Love one another the way I have loved you. Love!

It sounds simple but this Sunday we will delve into how difficult this can be! I hope you will join us in worship this Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00 and learn more about love.

See you Sunday!
