A Note from Jim Walters, Executive Director
Dear Friends,

This weekend is Habitat’s 20th annual Love Thy Neighbor choir concert. Habitat McLean County is a Christian Housing ministry seeking to put God’s love into action. I have had the opportunity to witness this faith in action. Every day, a dedicated staff comes to work prepared to make a difference. These are highly skilled people with superior levels of expertise working collaboratively with each other and our community partners. We are governed by a Board of Directors who has a passion for our mission and are ambassadors to the program. And of course, the foundation of Habitat is our volunteers. This organization only succeeds with you.

The proceeds from the concert go directly toward building a home for a hard working family. We send our thanks to Wesley United Methodist Church for allowing us to use their sanctuary for the concert. We're reserving a special round of applause for the musicians who will perform. This year we will be building five houses in Bloomington and one home in Normal. This Normal house is significant because it celebrates the ISU/IWU campus chapters’ 25 th build.

I’m excited for Love Thy Neighbor because I believe that God speaks to us through music and song. Music resonates within the human spirit. At the heart of humanity is a song of the soul. The spiritual significance of music can transcend communities, cultures, and creeds. Community, culture, and creed all offer insights into the connection between music and spirituality.

Micah 6:8: What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your god.

God Bless,

Jim Walters

Meet the White Family
Adrienne White will be a Spring 2018 Partner Family. Her future home on West Mulberry Street will be sponsored by Women Build and Country Financial. Adrienne is a Bloomington native, employed at Illinois Cancer Center. She is both a certified Medical Assistant and a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Adrienne enjoys braiding hair, cooking, and hanging out with family and friends.

Living with her in the home will be her two children Fairrah, age 7, and Lonnie, age 5. Fairrah loves to color and paint. Lonnie loves to play with Legos and playing video games on the Wii console.

The family is excited about their new beginning and new home. Adrienne is looking forward to her partnership with Habitat, which will help her provide stability for her children. She says, “I believe this is an amazing opportunity for my family and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

“We’re excited to partner with Lowe’s to educate, inspire and empower women to advocate and help Habitat homeowners love where they live through building or improving an affordable place they can call home,” said Lindsey Probst of Habitat McLean. “We want to engage women of all skill levels to join their friends, families and neighbors to build up their communities volunteer where women will gain invaluable skills to bring back and use in their everyday life.”

Habitat and Lowe’s encourage all women to volunteer—no construction skills or experience in Habitat builds necessary. To learn more about National Women Build Week, visit Habitat.org/wb.
National Women Build Week and Lowe’s, has brought together more than 117,000 all-women construction volunteers to build or repair more than 4,500 homes. This year, Lowe’s donated nearly $2 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the 2018 National Women Build.
