Notes from the Editor:
From time to time, I take a step back and look in wonder at the arts community here and how lucky we are to have the number and caliber of volunteers who make it all possible. I consider Gardenfest an arts-related event, and if you were at Riverside Park last weekend, you saw a top-notch group of volunteers in action. Many thousands of visitors enjoyed one of the best garden shows in the state, all put together by a relatively small group of unpaid volunteers, members of the Garden Club of Indian River County. Congratulations and thank you to all!
In a few weeks in the same location, a different band of equally dedicated volunteers, members of the Vero Beach Art Club, will welcome tens of thousands of visitors to the 73rd annual juried Under the Oaks Fine Arts & Craft Show. UTO is on more than one list of the top 200 art shows in the US. In three of the past four years, the show was voted in the top 17 in the Best Fine Arts & Design Shows in the COUNTRY by Sunshine Artist. The fourth year, 2020, COVID forced the Art club to shut down before the end of the first day.
Name any arts organization and you've more than likely found a place for your volunteer services. Look up the website and raise your hand.

The Jersey Tenors

The Jersey Tenors bring the music from Frank Sinatra to Frankie Valli to Figaro. The four talented guys, complete with Broadway and operatic credits, are Jersey born and bred and Jersey proud.
The Jersey Tenors seamlessly perform some of opera’s greatest works alongside the best of Josh Groban, ABBA, Queen, Journey, Elton John, Kool and the Gang, and of course, the best that Jersey has to offer, from Sinatra and Valli to Bon Jovi and Springsteen and Jersey girl Whitney Houston. Backed by a six-piece band, the boys bring a vast musical repertoire together in one night of song that honors the sound of “Joisey” and beyond.

Jefferson Starship

Descended from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and 2016 GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients Jefferson Airplane, the members of Jefferson Starship past and present have been exploring the mysteries of music for more than 1000 collective years! The legend of Jefferson Starship begins in 1970 when Paul Kantner released an album entitled “Blows Against the Empire.” They first toured as Jefferson Starship in 1974 and released the album “Dragonfly” which was certified gold.
Jefferson Starship is one of the most successful rock groups of the 1970’s and 80’s, earning 3 platinum and 8 gold records as well as numerous Top 40 singles. While Jefferson Starship continues to tour today the band has experienced numerous lineup and personnel changes and each of those members have contributed to the magic and alchemy that make Jefferson Starship iconic. Founding member David Freiberg continues to lead the band in its present day incarnation and was also a member of Jefferson Airplane and wrote one of the Jefferson Starship’s greatest hits, “Jane.” Other tremendous hits include “Ride The Tiger,” “Sarah,” “With Your Love,” “Count on Me,” “Winds of Change,” Find Your Way Back,” “Miracles” and “Runaway.”

Emerging Artists
Five Emerging Artists have their work on display at the Center for Spiritual Care in Vero Beach through Sunday, February 25. Stop by to see the diverse work and meet the artists on Sunday afternoons from noon to 3pm. These artists will be available to talk about their art and answer questions. Appointments are required to view the exhibit during the week.
The artists are Leah Blythe, Adam Conard, Vernon Tynes Gibson, Dominique Tynes Gibson, and Jingyu Xu

Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Guild of Organists
The Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), is the local chapter of this not-for-profit organization. The chapter serves the Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie counties of Florida and surrounding areas and carries out the mission of the AGO by sponsoring workshops, masterclasses, recitals and other activities. The chapter's members are professional musicians, educators, choir directors, and amateur organists and enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Martha Graham was an American modern dancer and choreographer. Her style, the Graham technique, reshaped American dance and is still taught worldwide. Graham danced and taught for over seventy years.
*Lamentation Variations is an ongoing creative project of the Martha Graham Dance Company. This year, in celebration of their 100th Season Anniversary, they asked young choreographers to create short dances inspired by a film of Martha Graham dancing her iconic solo, Lamentation.

Christopher Wheeldon is an English Choreographer who currently serves as the Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet. Wheeldon regularly choreographs for leading international companies, including Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet. His choreographic awards include the Tony Award for Best Choreography (An American in Paris).

Step into the world of music, history, and resilience with the Violins and Hope exhibition, presented by Community One Initiative and The Community Church of Vero Beach Viner Series for the Visual Arts. This captivating showcase is a striking visual representation of the inspiring story of Violins of Hope—instruments used by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust that were restored and uplifted by renowned Israeli violinmaker, Amnon Weinstein. The show will be in the Narthex Gallery at Community Church through April 1 2024. First Presbyterian Winter Art Reception and Show
The public is invited to an opening reception for the annual Winter Art Show at The Galleries of First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard. The show runs through March 31 and will showcase three standout artists, Evelyna Helmer, Maciek von Ato and Bertelle Brooking, as their work is displayed in galleries throughout the church campus. Indian River Charter High School with Lincoln Park Academy Presents Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida
From Indian River Charter HS:
Indian River Charter High School (IRCHS) announced its collaborative production of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, featuring students from Lincoln Park Academy (LPA) in Fort Pierce. The show runs through February 10, with nightly performances at 7:00 p.m.
Entirely student-driven, the production is helmed by the skilled technical theatre students of IRCHS, with standout performers from both schools' musical theatre departments taking center stage. The show is directed by Fednike Nozistene of IRCHS and Savannah Forbus of LPA.

Splash! 2024, Brevard’s largest watercolor show, presented by the Brevard Watercolor Society (BWS), will be held on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday, February 18th from 10am to 4pm at the Azan Shriner Center, 1591 West Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne. It features original watercolors by BWS members (all local artists), a juried art show and other awards, a student exhibition, an artist's marketplace where you can shop for unique works of art, raffles, and silent auction. The full slate of demonstrations includes a 5-artist "paint-around" on Saturday.
Splash is a wonderful chance to see (and acquire) watercolor paintings and other items from local artists. Admission and parking are free, so come visit the show and browse the Marketplace.

 |  | The A.E. Backus Museum presents the Art of the Fantastic: Imaginative Illustration from the Korshak Collection, on view March 8 through April 28, 2024. The Korshak Collection features works by pioneering artists from over a century of published science fiction, horror, and fantasy. These original adventure and fantasy illustrations appeared on the covers and pages of timeless novels, and in classic pulp magazines from the 1930s through 1960s such as Amazing Stories, Weird Tales, Fantastic Adventures, and Wonder Stories. The exhibition features 40 works from this notable private collection by such masters as Aubrey Beardsley, Arthur Rackham, Gustave Doré, Howard Pyle, Virgil Finlay, Kelly Freas, J. Allen St. John, Frank Frazetta, and Michael Whelan. With outstanding images of Martian princesses, Arthurian legends, ethereal fairies, alien invaders, imaginative pasts and fanciful, uncertain futures, Art of the Fantastic is far and away a superb survey of the extraordinary. The exhibition will be on view starting next month at the Backus Museum located at 500 North Indian River Drive in Historic Downtown Fort Pierce.

Blanco Solo, 2013 by Guy Harvey (b.1955) is an original acrylic on canvas, and is 30 x 40 inches.

Deborah Pollock will present “Hermann Herzog: Florida's Most Important Landscape Painter,” at the The Palm Beach Show (Jewelry, Art. Antiques, and Design), Palm Beach Convention Center, West Palm Beach Sunday, February 18, at 1 p.m. It’s free!
Prolific and poetic artist Hermann Herzog (1832–1932) first came to Florida by 1893 and fell so much in love with its lush splendor that he returned practically every winter, painting over 300 oils of its virgin terrain until around 1912. Comparisons will be made with Winslow Homer, George Inness, and Martin Johnson Heade, who were in Florida at the same time. Fast Forward: The Original Florida Highwaymen on the Way to Fame marks the 50th anniversary of the painters’ induction into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Fast Forward is on view through March 3 at 500 N. Indian River Drive in Historic Downtown Fort Pierce.
After more than fifty years in becoming an overnight success, the 26 landscape artists now known as The Original Highwaymen were inducted in 2004 into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame.
*Fast Forward presents an exhibition of more than 50 rarely or never-before-seen paintings assembled from 10 private collections from around the state, including works by Harold Newton (1934-1994), Alfred Hair (1941-1970), Livingston Roberts (1942-2004), R.A. “Roy” McLendon (b.1932), Sam Newton (b. 1948), Mary Ann Carroll (1940-2019), Willie Daniels (1950-2021), and more.
