Lovejoy High School
A Message from the Principal
Lovejoy HS News 12 03 18

P arents and Guardians,

I hope you had a chance to make it up to LHS this past weekend to attend our K-12 Fine Arts Festival. It was a great event that showcased the incredible work our students, teachers, and directors do each day. A special thanks to all of our parent volunteers who helped make this weekend possible. It truly is a blessing to have the parent and community partnership that makes Lovejoy special.
This Friday, we will have a pep rally to honor several groups of LHS students including our Advanced Placement Scholars. Last school year, LHS had 828 students take 1,592 AP exams. Of those 828 students, 284 have achieved recognition for their cumulative success on AP exams over their high school career. Although some of those 284 students graduated last year, we will honor our current Juniors and Seniors and recognize them for their achievements. Our pep rally will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Friday in the Main Gym.
Below you will find important announcements as well as details about upcoming events. Please take a few moments to read through them and let us know if you have any questions.

New! Lovejoy Mom Selected for 2019 Boston Marathon
Lovejoy mom, Tracy Sutherlin, is asking for your help in raising money to support the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Team in Training.
"Hi Friends, this is Tracy Sutherlin. I know you've seen me running the streets of Allen, Fairview and Lucas for many years and you know that running is my passion. I'm super excited to announce that I've been selected to be the North Texas Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team In Training Representative at the 2019 Boston Marathon. Not only do I get to fulfill a lifelong dream of running the Boston Marathon, I get to do it for a purpose!
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 9 minutes someone dies from one. More than 1.3 million people are living with, or are in remission from Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma. Sadly, more than 1/3 of blood cancer patients do not survive 5 years after diagnosis. LLS fund's research provides patients guidance, education & support. LLS also drives advocacy for policies that protect patients access to life saving treatments.
I am running to honor and celebrate two amazing Lovejoy students. Mallory Cass and Austin Bennett. Mallory is a 7th grader at Willow Springs Middle School and was diagnosed with Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2014. Austin is a senior at Lovejoy High School and was diagnosed with ALL in 2017. Mallory, Austin and so many others have fought and battled to beat this disease to get across the ultimate finish line of being cancer free!
I've been given the opportunity to raise money for LLS that provides funds to champion the fight in battling this disease. As you think about your charitable giving at the end of this year (or even in 2019) and where it can have the most impact, I ask that you consider helping me in this cause by donating to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Please help support me as I run to support LLS and those who have been touched by cancer! Because we all have a finish line to cross!"

Below are those men who placed in the top four in their weight classes:

1st place - Alec Viel, Braydon Thompson
3rd place - Luke Thomas, Dalton Braun, Will Adam

Cougar Classic 12/1:
Varsity division: We only wrestled four men out of the possible 14 weights on Saturday due to the Fine Arts Festival and we still managed to place 5th overall as a team out of 15 teams and bring home three gold medalists. Our men are getting better which gives us much excitement thinking about when we can fill the whole lineup in the near future! Below are our three gold medalists from the tournament:
Below, Hunter Duncan, Johnny Dorlon, Jakob Underwood, and Dillon Hebert.
