A Message from the Principal
April 26, 2021

Parents and Guardians,

This week marks the end of April and the start of the last five weeks of school for students. For those of you who have a Senior, it is likely you are wondering how the last four years went by so quickly. I encourage all of us to enjoy this time with our student and cherish each moment between now and Graduation on May 29th.
This week we take a break from exams, but Advanced Placement testing will begin next Monday, May 3rd and continue through May 17th (see more information about updated exam schedule below). We will also have End of Course Exams beginning the week of May 17th. Some great reminders for your students during these weeks include getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.
Please take some time and review the information below about important dates, events, and student recognition. May is an incredibly busy month and we hope this helps you know what is happening.

NHS Annual Service Project to Support Children's Health

This year Lovejoy High School National Honor Society has selected to partner with and support Children's Health for our annual service project. Children's Health is a pediatric healthcare system that is devoted to caring for the medical needs of children. The LHS NHS will not be sponsoring a single event, but will, instead, provide several opportunities for the NHS members and Lovejoy community to honor and support the patients of Children’s Health. NHS members are making cards, blankets, and fabric hearts to donate and will also be hosting “Superhero Day” at LHS.
Practice ACT Exams
This is a great chance to get started on your testing plan, or if you have already started, it will provide additional practice. Taking practice tests under timed conditions is essential to being ready for the official test. A proctored practice exam will help your child build testing endurance and give a real-time snapshot of his or her testing performance.

Dates:   Saturday, June 5, 2021 (ACT)
             Saturday, June 26, 2021 (ACT)
Time:   8:00am – 12:00pm (Live Online)
Materials will be emailed to students 24 hours before the exam.
Every exam comes with a free 30-minute score report review with Revolution Prep’s testing expert to assess specific strengths and areas of improvement. We highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity. Schedule your consultation to review the score report with our school’s dedicated advisor, Jayme Wakefield, who will help you interpret the results and develop a customized plan to prepare for the official exam. Lovejoy Wrestling
Results from the 5A State Championship:

What a weekend it was in Cypress for our men at the State Championship.  Once again, our 2021 team broke multiple all-time records for our program—we had the most men ever qualified (8) and wrestling (7) in the tournament in history.  We had the most placers in our history (3).  We finished with our highest placement to date as a team—6th place overall in the state!  Finally, Lovejoy wrestling crowned its first every men’s individual STATE CHAMPION—Jakob Underwood.
Jakob capped off a brilliant career at Lovejoy with the championship.  Jakob wrestled a smart tournament culminating it with a pin in the finals.  He finished with a season record of 31-1 and pinned three of his four opponents at the state tournament!  He finishes his career as the Lovejoy all-time leader in wins with a career total of 122!
Jakob finishes off his finals opponent with a pin to capture gold!
Sophomore Jackson Lambert and Junior Austin Blair both finished their seasons as state placers, each finishing in 6th place.  Lambert wrestled a great tournament, avenging a loss from his district final to earn his first all-state placement.
Blair also wrestled a great tournament, defeating multiple opponents on his way to his all-state placement.
Sophomore Jaden Bennett and Senior Dalton Braun both lost tough matches in the blood round to narrowly miss placing.  Both wrestlers finished the tournament with two wins a piece.  Braun completes his Lovejoy career with his best year yet, finishing the season with 27 wins, pushing his career total to 57, top ten all-time in Lovejoy wrestling history.
Sophomore Corey Soliz and Junior Isaiah Hunter also wrestled very well in their respective brackets.  Both fell short of placing but will be poised to come back next year and improve upon this finish.
Senior Jack McKinney did not get the chance to wrestle as the alternate this year.  He finished his Lovejoy career with a stellar season with 27 wins and a career record of 78 wins, 5th all-time in Lovejoy wrestling history.
Both of our women were dominant again, both earning state medals.  Senior Charis Vela caps her career off with her first top-4 finish, placing 4th in the state!  Vela finished the season with 18 wins, pushing her career record to 55 wins.  She will graduate as one of our all-time greats.
Junior Avery Ashley finishes the season with a 3rd place finish and 21 wins against only one loss.  She once again shows us why she is such a special talent.  Avery no doubt will come back for her senior season stronger than ever and on a mission to dominate.

Here are the individual placers:

6th—Jackson Lambert, Austin Blair
4th—Charis Vela
3rd—Avery Ashley
State Champion—Jakob Underwood
