Parents and Guardians,
Week One is in the books! I hope you and your student had a good first week, and you are beginning to settle back into your school year routines.
As a school, we are beginning to settle in as well. Students are beginning to memorize their schedules and figure out the fastest way to get to classes. After school traffic for student pickup also typically begins to improve this week as after-school schedules become more predictable.
Although the rest of this email contains important dates and information about upcoming events, I want to specifically highlight the LHS Open House event which will take place next Monday, August 30th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Please mark your calendar, and join us here at LHS as you follow your student's schedule. We are “green” at LHS Open House so you will not receive a printed copy of your child’s schedule when you arrive. More information about next Monday is below including how to access your child's schedule through PowerSchool. We hope you will be able to join us for this fast-moving evening.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Chris Mayfield
Principal

Open House
Join us for Open House on Monday, August 30th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm as you follow your student's schedule. It is a fast-moving evening, but will give you the chance to meet the teachers, and get a small taste of what your student's day is like.
Going Green for Open House
In an effort to save paper and be good stewards of the district's funds, we will not be printing students' schedules. Please come prepared with a copy of your student's schedule by following the instructions below.
Access your student's schedule digitally, via PowerSchool:

AP Drop Date September 3rd
A Google form for AP Drop requests will open on Monday, August 30, 2021 and close on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 4:00 PM. All requests for dropping an AP course will be reviewed by the AP Committee before a request is granted. The AP Committee will review the student’s past and current work in the content area, the efforts the student has initiated to learn the AP content and skills, and feedback from the current AP teacher. The committee will also take extenuating circumstances into consideration.
Students dropping an AP class will be moved to the corresponding Advanced class, unless they have already received credit for it. In cases where there is not a corresponding course of the same subject, students may not drop until the end of the semester. Another school year has started and we are filled with the energy, enthusiasm and anticipation of what this school year will bring. Help make this an exceptional year by joining, donating and getting involved in the Lovejoy High School PTSO. We need our parents, students, teachers, and community members to join. Your support helps us to continue providing meaningful programs to all of our students.
Last year your support helped us provide an online Virtual Calm Room with calming sounds, visual relaxation, webcams and more. We launched the online "how to library", Adulting 101, with 9 different how to videos. We hosted , Driving to Save Lives, with guest speaker Kevin Brooks. We provided three parent presentations: Ins and Outs of College Application Process, Zoom Like A Pro and Driving to Save Lives, parent version. For our students we provided positive messages in bathrooms- with vinyl wall graphics;
we celebrated the first week of school, You Rocked Week 1, with food, signage and magnets; provided items for the school's physical calm room; provided bubble wrap and hot cocoa for the Fall Stress Buster; and supported the Student Council with the Dude Be Nice program and the positive mental health activity, Hi How are you?
We appreciate everyone’s support!
