Lovejoy High School News
A Message from the Principal
December 16, 2019

Parents and Guardians,

With just a few more days until the end of the semester, students and staff are finishing up semester exams and getting excited about the holiday break. As you can imagine, nobody needs reminding about how many more days of school we have.

Although semester exams can add to the stress level of students, they also provide an opportunity for students to show their teachers what they have learned and to give them experience in preparing for Finals in college. We schedule exams out over four days to help balance the number of tests they take each day and to assist students in their preparation. Students began testing today and will continue through Thursday. Although your student may ask you to check them out early this week, please only do this if it is absolutely necessary. Calling classrooms to release students usually interrupts other students that haven’t finished their exam yet. We want every student to have the opportunity to complete their exams with as little distraction as possible.

Lovejoy High School will be closed beginning Friday, December 20th and will reopen at our regular time on Monday, January 6th.

As a reminder, Monday, January 6th is LHS Staff Professional Development Day and LHS students have a holiday. LHS is the only LISD campus with a student holiday on Monday and our students will return to school on Tuesday, January 7th. Students will need to check PowerSchool for their 2nd semester schedule before reporting to classes on January 7th. We will have staff available in the Commons and the Library on that Tuesday to support students who have questions about their schedule or were unable to access it online.

I truly hope you and your student enjoy this holiday season and have the opportunity to spend meaningful time with family, friends, and each other.

Chris Mayfield

Senior Projects
The Senior Project is a culminating high school initiative that demonstrates a student’s ability to write, speak, acquire and apply knowledge, solve problems, and apply a variety of skills, including time management and task analysis. It is intended to demonstrate what students know and can do as they prepare to graduate. It prepares them for college and/or the workplace and can help them transform their senior year into one that is uniquely challenging and stimulating. The Senior Project is performance based and adaptable to most topics of interest. We would love to have Junior and Senior parents judging projects this year.
Senior Project Presentations will take place during the 2019-2020 school year at Lovejoy High School on the following dates:

  • January 14th
  • February 12th
  • March 5th

If you are interested in supporting/judging senior projects this year, please use the Google Form to sign up for any date(s) that you are available:

For Senior Project Information, please have students check the CLASS OF 2020 page, and all templates are included in the classwork section. Any additional questions for parents, please use this link

New! Girls Basketball
The girls basketball program honored a group of very special teachers at their last home game. Each student invited a teacher that has made a significant impact on their experience at Lovejoy High School. Each player wrote a short explanation as to why the teacher was chosen which was read as they were announced with their player.

Lovejoy Basketball would like to thank all LHS teachers for their hard work, dedication, and support of the program and each individual girl in the program. You are appreciated!
