Lovejoy High School News
A Message from the Principal
December 2, 2019

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student enjoyed the Thanksgiving Break last week and had the opportunity to spend some time together. Christy and I were fortunate to have three of our five kids home (our oldest son and his wife stayed in Phoenix) for the holiday and enjoyed every minute of it. We also got to spend some time with Christy’s side of our extended family and were reminded of the many things we have to be thankful for.

Below you will find information about upcoming events and activities. I want to specifically highlight our annual Fine Arts Festival which will take place this Friday and Saturday at LHS and showcases our students K-12. I hope to see you there!

Also, I am excited to announce that all Juniors at Lovejoy High School will be taking the SAT test during the school day on Wednesday March 4, 2020. This test is only for Juniors and will be paid for using College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) funding provided in House Bill 3. I will send out more information in the coming weeks, but wanted to share the news and make sure you had the date to put on your calendar. If you or your student is interested, you can also find free SAT practice opportunities that are available through the College Board- https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice . We hope state funding for this will continue and it will be an annual event for Juniors.

Last of all, a huge congratulations to our 2019 State Championship Lovejoy Lady Leopards Volleyball Team! Students that attended the game will need to turn in their ticket stub (with their name written on it) to the front desk by the end of the day Friday, Dec 6 to receive an approved absence. The adjustments for attendance in PowerSchool will be made next week.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal

ATTENTION! Upcoming Events for Choir - CAROL-O-GRAMS!!

Carol-O-Grams are singing telegrams provided by the LHS Choir.  Lovejoy residents absolutely LOVE and look forward to this fundraiser.  We hear AMAZING compliments and comments about this event. All proceeds go to the Booster Club general fund, which is used to help fund voice lesson scholarships, senior scholarships, spring pop show, to purchase music and other supplies needed by our directors, and to assist with the end-of-year banquet.

Each family is asked to sell ONE (no more than two) Carol-O-Grams as a holiday gift for someone WITHIN the LOVEJOY ISD boundary.  Purchase one for your neighbor, or have your neighbor purchase one for a neighbor…Share a random act of kindness, and send a Carol-O-Gram to your barista at Starbucks (in LISD)…You know they deserve it!  SHARE the LOVE! Each Carol-O-Gram is $26 (payment is online). As a reminder, we limit this fundraiser to two nights because we don’t want to over-commit our students during this time of year.

To order, follow THIS LINK or go to www.lovejoychoir.com/carol-o-grams . The order form and payment button is on the page.  Orders and payments must be received by Wednesday, December 4.
Campus and District News
New! A Note from the Nurse
'Tis the season that joy and germs spread. We are currently seeing a 24 hour stomach bug, a virus with cold like symptoms, a few cases of the flu and pink eye. Please consider donating kleenex, disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer to help keep our students and staff healthy.

Also, please remember to keep your student home if they have a fever greater than 100, vomiting, diarrhea or an infection. Students must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Antibiotics must be taken for a minimum of 24 hours before returning. This is required by the Texas Administrative Code.

Senior Projects
The Senior Project is a culminating high school initiative that demonstrates a student’s ability to write, speak, acquire and apply knowledge, solve problems, and apply a variety of skills, including time management and task analysis. It is intended to demonstrate what students know and can do as they prepare to graduate. It prepares them for college and/or the workplace and can help them transform their senior year into one that is uniquely challenging and stimulating. The Senior Project is performance based and adaptable to most topics of interest. We would love to have Junior and Senior parents judging projects this year.

Senior Project Presentations will take place during the 2019-2020 school year at Lovejoy High School on the following dates:

  • January 14th
  • February 12th
  • March 5th

If you are interested in supporting/judging senior projects this year, please use the Google Form to sign up for any date(s) that you are available:

For Senior Project Information, please have students check the CLASS OF 2020 page, and all templates are included in the classwork section. Any additional questions for parents, please use this linkhttps://lhs.lovejoyisd.net/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=383740&type=d&pREC_ID=872503
