Lovejoy High School News
A Message from the Principal
February 3, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

This past Friday, we had the opportunity to host our WSMS 8th graders for "Bump Up Day". Those students got to tour parts of the high school and hear from LHS staff and students about courses and opportunities available at LHS. They also encouraged our 8th graders to pursue their passions and be open to taking classes they may not have considered before. With registration for 8th graders coming in the next few weeks, "Bump Up Day" was developed to help incoming 9th graders as they make selections for their 2020-21 class schedules. We will also have our annual Showcase on Monday, February 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the LHS Commons. This event is for parents and students to get more information about course offerings in addition to the different clubs and extra-curricular opportunities available at LHS.

This week we are also hosting our spring College Fair. On Wednesday, February 5 th  from 4:30-6 PM in the LHS Commons, parents and students from all grade levels are encouraged to come and speak with college reps from over 50 different schools. Click here to see the current list of colleges who have RSVP’d.  https://4.files.edl.io/109f/01/27/20/212605-c5a3ce8a-cb59-4f45-9221-71f45c4aa6e6.pdf
As part of the evening, there will also be a parent presentation hosted by Collin College following the Fair for rising Seniors who are interested in Dual Credit.

Please take a few minutes to review the important information and upcoming events listed below. I hope you and your student have a great week.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield

Swimming and Diving
The Lady Leopards captured the 1st Regional Championship in school history! It came down to the 400 Free Relay and our ladies did not disappoint! The message of doing one thing better came to fruition over and over again, and in no bigger pressure cooker than the last swim of the meet!

Not to be outdone, Boys also swam their hearts out, and finished 2nd for the second consecutive year. It again came down to the last relay with the boys taking 2nd in the 400 Free Relay to edge out Frisco High for 2nd place behind Frisco Wakeland.
In a meet that saw almost 40 lifetime best swims, we won two Regional titles (Jed Michael Jones - 200 IM & 500 Free), broke 3 school records (Girls 200 Free Relay [C. Sperling, A. Poulton, E. Dingerwerth, E. Jones], Jackson Willard - 100 Breast, Boys 400 Free Relay [R. Walenciak, J. Willard, M. Mueth, J.M. Jones]) and had over 50 second swims, and every single swim was HUGE. Click here for the complete results from the weekend.

2020 State Qualifiers:

Jed Michael Jones - 200 IM & 500 Free

Leopard Soccer earns draw vs Sulphur Springs
Friday night the Leopard men traveled to Sulphur Springs in their last challenge before taking on district play on Tuesday. While the boys were met with a tough and physical Wildcat side, the squad handled the pressure with great ball control and composure. Although the Leopards won in 50/50 balls, passes completed, and possession, a late equalizer by Sulphur Springs earned the split. Diego Rodriguez tallied the only Leopard mark of the night, putting a loose ball in front of the net away in the corner of the goal to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead. The boys could not hold on however, conceding a set piece equalizer with 8 minutes left. The squad has a quick turnaround this week as they travel to Wylie East on Tuesday to kick off district play.
