Lovejoy High School News
A Message from the Principal
January 13, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student had a good transition back to school last week. The first week of any semester can be challenging, but I hope things are getting back in a routine and have smoothed out for you. One of my favorite things about the first week of the spring semester is seeing our recent alumni who come back to LHS while on break from college. I love hearing about their first semester out of high school, and they are usually quick to tell me that their LHS experience has prepared them for where they are now.

I sometimes get questions about programs that LHS has in place to support all types of learners. If you have questions about this, or just want to hear more about it, I would like to invite you attend a Principal's Coffee on Friday, January 17th at 9:30 a.m here at LHS. Administrators will share information about many of these programs at this event including supports provided through PST, 504, and Special Education.

As a reminder, next Monday, January 20th, LISD will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Please take a few minutes to review the rest of the information that can be found below in this email. We will continue to update the schedule and information throughout the semester.

Also, please note that TEA has released the 2018-19 school report card for Lovejoy High School and can be accessed here . Have a great week!

Al Litchenburg

January is National School Board Appreciation Month. This year in Lovejoy ISD, each campus will be recognizing one of our school board members for the entire month of January. LHS is excited to honor LISD School Board-Trustee
Al Litchenburg.

Al Litchenburg was elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2012. Mr. Litchenburg has lived in the Lovejoy district since July 2003. He and his wife, Kelli, have five children, three of which currently attend Lovejoy schools. Mr. Litchenburg serves as Chief Development Officer for Pizza Hut, Inc. and is responsible for all U.S. store development, including asset investment, real estate, architecture, construction, facility management, and franchise recruiting & development. He has been with the company for over 20 years and has held a number of positions throughout his career. Mr. Litchenburg earned his Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s degree from The University of Oklahoma.

In the community, Mr. Litchenburg is a member of Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church and volunteers regularly in the children’s department. Mr. Litchenburg is also active in youth sports and has coached a variety of youth sports for 13 years. He enjoys teaching kids the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the privilege of being able to participate in sports.

“I am fully vested in this community and enjoy giving back by being a part of the LISD School Board,” notes Mr. Litchenburg. “This is a terrific and rapidly growing district, and I enjoy using my knowledge and background to add value to the work we do. The world is changing faster than ever before, and we must have a strong vision with committed community leaders to help our students achieve their maximum potential”.

New! Lovejoy's COOL Club
Hi everyone! Lovejoy's COOL Club (Charity Out of Love) is hosting a donation drive this month, and we'd love to have your help. We are partnering with VSPglobal's Eyes of Hope® program and collecting used eyeglasses to provide the gift of sight to those in need. Over 2 billion people globally need glasses, but are unable to access them. Allowing children to succeed in school or adults to care for their families, seeing clearly provides endless opportunities. We are simply asking you to donate any used pairs of glasses instead of throwing them away so that someone else can be given the same privilege of seeing that you had.

The collection box will be located in the commons throughout the month of January - Just look for the gold box with a dog on it and drop the glasses in!

Deadline approaching to guarantee you have a yearbook in May.
