A Message from the Principal
January 20, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student enjoyed the holiday weekend. Although we have only been back in school a couple of weeks, I know our students and staff were glad to have it.

If you haven't gotten your tickets to this year's LHS Musical, you will want to hurry up before they are gone. The Lovejoy High School Theatre and Choir students will be performing  Pirates of Penzance  this Thursday through Saturday (January 23-25) at 7 pm in the LHS Auditorium. More information about the Musical as well as a link to purchase tickets can be found below in this email.

I also want to say a special congratulations to our LHS Cheer and Wrestling programs on their State competitions this past weekend. Cheer had a 2nd place overall finish at the State UIL Spirit competition this past weekend and our Boys Wrestling Team had a 4th place finish at the State Dual Meet.

Please take a few moments to read below about some of the other great things our students are doing. There is also information regarding important dates and events coming up in the near future. Have a great week!

This is where they need our help. The PTSA is reaching out to our membership to bring a cultural dish to share with students on Thursday, January 30th from 11:30 am to 12:55 pm. Here is the sign up:

New! Leopard Soccer Finishes Tourney Season in Heath, North Forney
While not the results that the boys have become accustomed to, the North Forney tournament was a great experience for a squad that is starting to gear up towards the 2020 district slate. The tourney starting Thursday AM in the rain against a much improved Rockwall side that were able to sneak in a goal with 2 minutes left to better our boys by a score of 2-1. The Leopards spent much of Thursday afternoon regrouping and used the quality time to put together a 3-0 thrashing of Mesquite Horn to get back in the win column. Friday brought another challenge in the form of a scrappy Garland Lakeview team that was able to find a tying goal again with less than 3 minutes left. While the draw was not enough to put the boys through the group stage, it was a well played match that saw our side create many chances to put the Patriots away. The program will take some much needed recovery time over the next 36 hours and get back to training this week in preparation for Friday, when the Leopards will travel to Denton Ryan in a non district matchup.

The Junior Varsity spent the weekend in Heath, TX at the Rockwall Heath tournament Thursday through Saturday night. While competing against some of the area's top programs, the boys were able to finish second in their group to move on to a final against a solid Lakeview Centennial team Saturday night at Cain Middle School. In the final, the boys used great ball movement and effort to come out victorious by a score of 3-1. The boys will be back in action next Friday at Denton Ryan, that game starts at 5:30.

Assists by Reagan Matacale (2), Hannah Dunlap, Callan Snider, and Amiya Callicutt. Friday morning, in wet conditions, the Leopards beat Whitehouse 1-0 after scoring an early goal and staying strong defensively to keep the clean sheet. The lone goal in the game was scored by freshman Emmy Wood (unassisted). Hailey Downing was in goal to preserve the clean sheet with help from defenders Jordan Watson, Katie Irby, Avery Templin, Callan Snider, and Maggie Manders. Saturday morning the Leopards beat College Station 1-0 with a great performance in the second half going against strong winds. The lone goal was scored by Emmy Wood again and assisted by Katie Welch. Hailey Downing picked up her 4th clean sheet of the season with help from defenders Jordan Watson, Amiya Callicutt, Katie Irby, Callan Snider, and Maggie Manders.
