A Message from the Principal
January 4, 2021

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student are having a Happy New Year and enjoying the break from school. It is hard to believe we are in 2021 and the start of the spring semester is just a few days away.

As a reminder, January 4th and 5th are Professional Development days for our teachers. LHS students will continue on holiday break until classes resume on January 6th. Please remind your students to check PowerSchool for their 2nd Semester schedule before reporting to classes on Wednesday. We will have staff available in the Commons and the Library when students return to support those who have questions about their schedule or were unable to access it online. Virtual students should contact their counselor if they are having issues accessing their schedule or classes.

I truly hope you and your student enjoy the last few days of the break and have had an opportunity to spend meaningful time together.

 Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal

McKenna Christiansen (’20) – Honorable Mention Kristina Marshall (’21) - Merit, and Luis Sandoval (’21) – Honorable Mention, were recognized among 659 of the nation’s most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary and performing arts. Selected from thousands of applications and representing artists from across the United States, these YoungArts award winners will have opportunities for financial, creative and professional development support throughout their entire careers. Selected through the organization’s prestigious competition, YoungArts award winners are chosen for their caliber of artistic achievement by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process.
YoungArts award winners become eligible for exclusive creative and professional development support including a wide range of fellowships, residencies and awards; virtual and in-person presentation opportunities in collaboration with major venues nationwide as well as additional financial support. Click HERE for a link to their work.

Please congratulate Mckenna, Kristina, and Luis for joining past Lovejoy graduates Eli Ruhala (’18) and Katie Miller (’19) in this prestigious honor.

LVJA is also very excited to announce that 2020 LHS graduate, Hunter Ruiz was selected to be included in the College Board’s 2020 AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit. This exhibit features 51 international high school artists who submitted their artwork to the 2020 AP Art and Design exam. The artworks selected represent the resilience and perseverance of high school students worldwide as they create innovative bodies of work based on personal process, concept and ideation. The exhibit features student and teacher reflections on these works, providing compelling insights into how artists make choices and approach art making. Culling from the top scores, the 51 students selected for the AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit represent high-quality examples of rigor and excellence of the AP Art and Design portfolio and also as an exemplar teaching tool shared with AP Art and Design students and teachers around the world.

Congratulations to Hunter on this incredible honor and recognition of her artwork! Visit the link above to see Hunter’s selected work.
