A Message from the Principal
May 11, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

We are heading into the homestretch! Today begins our two weeks of Advanced Placement (AP) testing. Although I know it can be a stressful time for students, teachers, and parents (particularly with testing happening from home), it is also the opportunity to reap the benefits of the hard work they have put in all year. If your student will be taking one of the nearly 2,000 exams that will be given over the next 10 school days, I wish them (and you) all the best!

Also, I am excited to get to introduce Ray Cooper as Lovejoy High School’s Teacher of the Year at tonight’s LISD School Board Meeting. For those of you who may not know Ray, he is incredible with creating and maintaining strong relationships with students and his colleagues. Ray weaves fun into teaching Animation everyday and his classroom is an upbeat and inviting space for students. LHS is blessed to have Ray Cooper and so proud he is the LHS Teacher of the Year.

Please take a few minutes and read below for important information about upcoming events including Senior Activities, textbook drop-off, and Yearbook pickup.

When you pull up to each station please do not get out of your car. There will be a table where you may place your items to return. We are attempting to create a system that will require no exchanging of items by hand. If you are picking up items at Tables 1, 5, or 6, staff will place your item on a table, and you will have the ability to pick it up from there.

Final Medication Pickup
The nurse will be at the exterior gymnasium courtyard entrance (station #6) with medications and a form to sign.   Please bring your own pen  as we practice physical distancing during this process.  Only parents or guardians  can pick up medication, even if your student is 18 years old, unless your student has current written permission in the clinic to self-carry their medication from a doctor (this includes inhalers, epipens, and insulin). No medication will be stored over the summer. If you need to make special arrangements to pick up medication, please do not hesitate to email Nurse Dresser at

Library Book and Technology
If you're dropping off library books or technology (Chromebooks, Laptops, etc.), those items will be collected at Station #2 in the drop off line. Please LOCATE ALL CHARGERS and have those ready to turn in so that your account can be fully cleared. Please LOCATE the BARCODE STICKER on your items and note: LHS library and technology barcodes start with 33501. See screenshots for examples. All other textbooks will be dropped off at Station #4. They do not have these same barcode labels on them.
Athletic Pick-Up & Returns
All Head Coaches are reaching out to their student athletes and parents directly. Each student athlete should choose a specific time to retrieve their items from the athletic facilities. All student athletes will be required to follow social distancing protocols. All athletic facilities will be cleaned out prior to Friday, May 15th.

Fine Arts & Visual Arts Pick-Up & Returns
All program sponsors will coordinate with their respective students for personally owned items that need to be picked up, and any school owned items that needs to be dropped off. Each program has created a sign-up genius for students/families to come to LHS. All returns for the Fine Arts & Visual Arts Departments will take place on or prior to Friday, May 22 during the designated time provided by the student's fine arts director.
Graduation Celebration
Saturday May 30th

We will be honoring our seniors at a Graduation Celebration on Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 AM. Each senior has been invited to dress in their Cap and Gown, decorate their car, and report to the LHS student parking that morning. Parents and sibling are encouraged to ride in the car with their graduate. The seniors will receive their diploma and embark on a parade route that runs through parts of the district.

We will also share the route with our community so yard signs can be made and everyone can cheer from their front yard, or park a car along the parade route to honk for our graduates.

If restrictions allow, we will also be planning a more traditional ceremony on July 25th at the LHS Football Field for graduates and their immediate families.

Notes from the Nurse

Hi Leopard Family, please take a moment to review the Lovejoy Nurse's letter this week. It is filled with great resources to help your families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adopt a Senior - Senior Project

Ella Brumley has many senior friends and wanted to find a way to support them as they deal with the disappointment of missing out on some important milestones.  As Varsity Spirit Cheer Captain this year she got to see first hand the exciting growth in community and school spirit. What better way to keep that momentum going than to adopt a senior and help them celebrate.

We would like the support of the entire Lovejoy community! Just follow this link  or go to Facebook and search for Adopt a 2020 Lovejoy Senior. Ask to join, and you will be added shortly. Once you are in, read ALL the rules and then add your post or adopt a senior. Once you have adopted a senior, it is up to you to bless them with goodies, send them some mail, bring them their favorite drinks, just show them some love! All the information is on the page about sharing information, and even a list the seniors can fill out to share with their adoptees.

If you are not on Facebook, but would still like to participate or if you have any questions please contact Ella, by email at

In 2016, the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth created “20 Under 20” as part of the Global Young Leaders Program. This initiative honors 20 exceptional high school students who are active in their local Junior World Affairs Council club (JWAC). 20 Under 20 spotlights young people in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex who consistently give back to their communities and exemplify what it means to be a global citizen. Congratulations to
Abigail Xue for earning the honor of being named one of the area’s
20 Under 20.
