A Message from the Principal
May 4, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe that we are in the last month of the school year! I hope you and your student have developed a good routine and are managing the @Home Learning well. Please continue to reach out to your child’s teachers, counselors, and principals with any help you may need.

This week we will be reaching out to Seniors through Google Classroom to begin work on Senior Signing Day. Once we have their information submitted, I will announce our official Senior Signing Day time and platform to share with our community. I also sent Seniors an email today encouraging them to take some time to reflect on their accomplishment of finishing high school. In conjunction with Teacher Appreciation Week, I asked them to take the opportunity to thank those who have helped them through their K-12 journey.  I also want to encourage you to take a moment and send an encouraging note to a teacher that had a positive impact on your child this year.

I also want to say a big “Thank You” to all of you who are participating in the Adopt A Senior FaceBook page that Elle Brumley created last week. There was a great response and it has been fun to see the pictures of our Seniors as well as the neat ways that others in the community are celebrating them.

Please take a few moments to read the additional information below. Have a great week!

Graduation Celebration
Saturday - May 30, 2020

We will be honoring our seniors at a Graduation Celebration on Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 AM. Each s enior has been invited to dress in their Cap and Gown, decorate their car, and report to the LHS student parking that morning. Parents and sibling are encouraged to ride in the car with their graduate. The seniors will receive their diploma and embark on a parade route that runs through parts of the district.

We will also share the route with our community so yard signs can be made and everyone can cheer from their front yard, or park a car along the parade route to honk for our graduates.

If restrictions allow, we will also be planning a more traditional ceremony on July 25th at the LHS Football Field for graduates and their immediate families.

The nurse will be at the exterior gymnasium courtyard entrance (station #6) with  medications  and a form to sign.   Please bring your own pen  as we practice physical distancing during this process.  Only parents or guardians  can pick up medication, even if your student is 18 years old, unless your student has current written permission in the clinic to self-carry their medication from a doctor (this includes inhalers, epipens, and insulin). No medication will be stored over the summer. If you need to make special arrangements to pick up medication, please do not hesitate to email Nurse Dresser at
Library Book and Technology
If you're dropping off library books or technology (Chromebooks, Laptops, etc.), those items will be collected at Station #2 in the drop off line. Please LOCATE ALL CHARGERS and have those ready to turn in so that your account can be fully cleared. Please LOCATE the BARCODE STICKER on your items and note: LHS library and technology barcodes start with 33501. See screenshots for examples. All other textbooks will be dropped off at Station #4. Adopt a Senior - Senior Project

Ella Brumley has many senior friends and wanted to find a way to support them as they deal with the disappointment of missing out on some important milestones.  As Varsity Spirit Cheer Captain this year she got to see first hand the exciting growth in community and school spirit. What better way to keep that momentum going than to adopt a senior and help them celebrate.

We would like the support of the entire Lovejoy community! Just follow this link  or go to Facebook and search for Adopt a 2020 Lovejoy Senior. Ask to join, and you will be added shortly. Once you are in, read ALL the rules and then add your post or adopt a senior. Once you have adopted a senior, it is up to you to bless them with goodies, send them some mail, bring them their favorite drinks, just show them some love! All the information is on the page about sharing information, and even a list the seniors can fill out to share with their adoptees.

If you are not on Facebook, but would still like to participate or if you have any questions please contact Ella, by email at

LHS Teacher of the Year- Ray Cooper!

Lovejoy ISD is excited to announce the 2019 - 2020 Campus Teachers of the Year. Our own Ray Cooper not only received the LHS Heart of the Teacher award during the school year, but was also selected by our LHS staff as the Campus Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations Ray! We are so honored to be working with you!
LHS Student Council has earned Recognition as
TASC Sweepstakes Council
Lovejoy High student council has earned recognition as a Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) Sweepstakes Council, the highest honor a TASC council can achieve as well as Outstanding Student Council. Sweepstakes Councils must earn recognition in the areas of Pride and Patriotism, Energy and Environment, and Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health, as well as School & Community service. Only exceptional councils earn this honor, and help set the bar to which other councils should aspire. This achievement serves as a benchmark for what a well-rounded student council in Texas should do to be effective. This is truly a significant accomplishment and is a testament of the hard work Student Council does each year.
LJVA Award Winners - 2020 Young American Talent Exhibition

Please congratulate the following Lovejoy Visual Artists for being selected to exhibit in the 2020 Young American Talent art competition and exhibition. This regional high school art competition is organized by the Visual Arts Guild of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts & H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery at El Centro College as a celebration and exhibition of the highest caliber of high school visual art in the DFW area for the past 29 years. Of the 65 North Texas schools and 1120 student submissions, 130 works were selected for the exhibit.

Of the 9 Lovejoy artworks selected for the exhibit, 6 won awards! We are incredibly proud of all LJVA students that were selected for this honor, and applaud the 6 LJVA artists that were awarded as exemplars in their media category. Please check out the LJVA Instagram (@lovejoyvisualart) to see these works and hear more about the planning, process, and content behind all of our incredible artists' work.

Girls Soccer
With two games (six possible points) remaining before the season was cut short, the girls varsity soccer team were three points behind 1st place Wylie East and tied on points with McKinney North in 2nd place. The athletic directors decided that any team with a chance of winning district with the points remaining would share the district title. This means the team will share the district championship with Wylie East and McKinney North. This is the first district championship in program history. Many of the girls also won district awards, including 21 players on the Academic All-District Team. Congratulations to all the players!
