Parents and Guardians,
Believe it or not, we are in the final week of school before the Thanksgiving Break. I know our kids are excited about taking a break from school, and I hope you and your student spend some meaningful time together next week.
This is an exciting time for our LHS Athletic programs. Some of our upcoming sporting events include both our Volleyball team playing in the State Tournament and our Football team competing in their second round playoff game this Friday. The district will be sharing information in a special email tomorrow regarding how students can be dismissed from school to attend the Volleyball Semi-Final game which is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. Information about ticketing and venue policies for the Volleyball and Football events can be found below.
Don't forget that LHS will be closed while students and staff are on break from Monday, November 22nd through Friday, November 26th. If there is something you will need during that week (VOE's - required paperwork for student driver permits, transcripts, etc...), please let us know this week so we can assist you before then.
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching next week, I am reminded of how thankful I am for our Lovejoy community. This is a unique place, and I am grateful to be part of it. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and take the opportunity to reflect on, and appreciate, the things you have to be thankful for.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Chris Mayfield

Robotics
Lovejoy Robotics had an incredible weekend with history being made twice!
To start, the first-ever Lovejoy Robotics Drone Team competed in the Bell Vertical Robotics Competition and had a great showing. They were relentless, never gave up, and worked incredibly hard all day long. They are led by Aerospace Engineering teacher Mrs. Gaddie and they are all excited about competing again in the future!
Pictured from left to right are:
Drew Kurtenbach, Gregory Powers, Alec Miksa, Isaac Joseph, Fletcher Boots, Alex Tranchina, David David, Brayden Nelson, Hannah Mao and Mrs. Gaddie.
In Galveston teams 1082C and 1082K competed in the VEX Signature Event Battle by the Beach.
1082K competed all day long and logged some great skills runs. They ended ranked 3rd overall in skills and also won the Judges Awards for special achievement in the judge's eyes.
1082C fought through every round at the same tournament and ended the day ranked 5th overall. They had an intense set of elimination rounds, ended the day as semi-finalists, but due to the overall quality of the team, team conduct, quality of the engineering notebook, team interview and rankings- the judges awarded them with the Excellence Award! This is the highest level of award at a tournament. This qualifies them to VEX Worlds- the World Championship, which will be held in Dallas in May. We are #LovejoyProud of their accomplishment!
