A Message from the Principal
October 26, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

It's Homecoming Week at LHS! Although it certainly won’t have some of our regular HOCO activities, our Student Council has worked to create some fun memories for our students. We will have our traditional themed dress-up days for the week as well as our students having the opportunity to wear their Homecoming Mums to school on Friday.

There is a Community Pep Rally at Leopard Stadium planned for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. The current weather forecast is calling for rain that evening. We will make a decision on whether to postpone the pep rally by noon on Wednesday and share that information out through social media. If the pep rally is postponed, our current plan is to move it to Wednesday, November 11th.

Our Homecoming Game is Friday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m. We will be announcing members of the Homecoming Court as well as crowning our King and Queen during halftime. Come early so you won't miss their entry into the stadium prior to the game, and stay late after the game as we have our first Homecoming Fireworks Show. More information about the fireworks show can be found below including how to donate and financially support the efforts of our Student Council to put this on for our students.

Don't forget that next Monday, November 2nd and Tuesday, November 3rd are holidays for LISD students and Professional Development days for staff. The building will be closed but we will be answering phones throughout the day. We hope you and your student enjoy the long weekend.

Below you can read about some important dates and upcoming events. Please take a few minutes to read through them so you have the most recent information.

Have a great week.

Notes from the Nurse
Please pay close attention to how your child is feeling as we enter the allergy/cold/ and flu season. We have seen several positive Covid-19 cases presenting with only allergy symptoms. Covid-19 and strep throat have also appeared together.

This Covid and Other IIlness Symptoms Chart may help you distinguish the difference

When symptomatic, it is best to stay home and attend virtual school. Below is an example of how easily Covid-19 spreads.
Stay safe and healthy,

LHS Student Council Seeking
Donations for Homecoming Fireworks
Be a part of making Homecoming 2020 a BANG at Lovejoy High School for our students.

Homecoming is the first high school event since returning to campus, and while things look different from past celebrations, we look forward to creating new memories and making it a night to remember for our student body and Lovejoy community.
Following the Homecoming Game, LHS Student Council (STUCO) invites you to join them with a community fireworks showcase.
STUCO is looking for families, community members, or organizations who would like to financially partner with us to provide a post-game fireworks show for our students and Lovejoy families. STUCO hopes to raise $5000 which will support an 8-10 minute fireworks show after the football game on October 30.

As the cost is larger than STUCO's budget, donations are being accepted. Any level of donation is appreciated.
Checks and cash payments made and delivered to Lovejoy High School.

*All excess funds will go to the Senior Pep Rally then towards the new tradition of fireworks at the Homecoming game next year.
Yearbook Senior Ad Deadline

Yearbook Senior Ads are On Sale Until Oct. 30th.
Your Lovejoy High School senior’s year is going to be filled with a lot of firsts, lasts, and memorable experiences. One of these is his or her yearbook. The yearbook staff wants to continue the tradition we have found to be the most unique to honor your son/daughter/family member. We are extending you a chance to convey a special message to your senior in his or her final high school yearbook. By offering you space in our advertising section, you may send your senior a message that will be preserved forever in their final yearbook. The personalized message may include pictures you provide. Cost of the ads vary, depending on the size of the message you wish to send. Also, family members, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends can contribute to this unique offer to make your message more special if you would like to do so. You may use a message found on a sample, or you may create a special one of your own.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Test
Thursday, December 3rd

If your student is interested in taking the ASVAB test, they can sign up here

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery measures your student's knowledge and ability in ten different areas. It is not an IQ test, but the ASVAB does help the US Military assess which jobs they are best suited to perform.

Taking this test does not commit students to the military and this is the only planned test administration this year.

For any other questions, you can contact your student's counselor.

The 7th Annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign
Lovejoy Family!! The 7th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun! Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.
The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and administration in our district. It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.

Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher’s name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at specified location of each campus no later than Friday November 13th. Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year in these very unusual times!
