Lovejoy High School News
A Message from the Principal
September 16, 2019
Parents and Guardians,
Thanks to everyone who organized and participated in Leopard Friday this past week. As far back as I can remember, it was the largest turnout of kids and adults we have had. It was a great afternoon of face painting, games, candy, food trucks, and lots of other activities. Leopard Friday is one of our unique Lovejoy traditions, and I hope you were able to attend.

I also want to share some fantastic news about six LHS students who were recently named 2020 National Merit Semi-Finalists. Brendan Dunleavy, William Guo, Shalin Mehta, Arianne Ohman, Collin Thomson, and Stephanie Zhou all earned that distinction for their performance on the PSAT test last year. The National Merit Semi-Finalist distinction is awarded to students who scored in the top 1% out of approximately 1.6 million 11th graders who participate. This is the largest number of National Merit Semi-Finalists that LHS has had, and these students and their families deserve a big congratulations for this accomplishment!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

New! PowerSchool Parent Portal for Student Absences
A new feature has been added to the PowerSchool   Parent portal   where parents can enter the excuse notes for a student absence. Parents can do multiple students at the same school with one entry. This does not supersede sending in appropriate documentation but it does allow parents to skip phone calls and/or   parent notes in the case of illness, vacation, etc.

This does not automatically mark the student absent; however, it does alert the attendance clerk to this absences to be approved and changed to the appropriate code. The app does not have this feature; however, parents can log onto the Browser from a phone   and have this feature. For Instructions, please click on the links below.

Stand Up to Cancer-Senior Project!
Tyler Loop is teaming up with Alex's Lemonade Stand to stand up against cancer! Tyler has chosen to do his senior project through "Kick-It Champions".

Kick-It Champions is a program that raises money for Pediatric Cancer Research by turning Tyler's upcoming season stats into lifesaving research dollars. Here is how it works. Supporters can pledge a dollar amount for every kicking point scored by Field Goal and Extra Point. At the end of the season, supporter pledged donations are calculated and processed based on results via the secure “Kick-it Champion” website. Example: $2 per point X 50 points = $100 donation! Join Tyler this season to help KICK away Pediatric Cancer.
Last year, he raised $1000. This year, Tyler is aiming to score 75 points and raise $7500!

Instructions :
In order to make a pledge, you must go to the  PLEDGE  link below. You will then be asked to enter your pledge amount and billing information (credit card). At the end of the season, your pledge will be processed automatically. All donations go directly to Alex's Lemonade Stand!
