Parents and Guardians, Today marks the beginning of the 6th week of school. It has been difficult for most of us to settle into our routines, but I hope your student and family are beginning to find your school rhythms. Last week you received emails informing you of reported positive COVID-19 cases. Those communications are required by TEA and will continue when LHS becomes aware of new positive cases. As a reminder, please check your child’s health status each morning and keep them at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Notes from the Nurse

Parents, Please monitor your child for the following symptoms:  Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Loss of taste or smell Cough Difficulty breathing Shortness of breath Headache Chills Sore throat Shaking or exaggerated shivering Significant muscle pain or ache Diarrhea Nausea/Vomiting Fatigue Congestion or runny nose If your student is not feeling well, please keep them at home and allow them to attend school virtually.  If your child is exposed to a positive lab confirmed COVID case or experiences symptoms, you may hear the words quarantine or isolation. The attached link explains the difference. Event Updates

College Financial Aid (FAFSA) Webinar Wednesday, September 23rd LHS is hosting a FAFSA webinar for all senior parents and students Wednesday, September 23rd. at 7:00 pm via Zoom. This webinar will answer any questions families may have about completing the upcoming FAFSA (Financial Aid) application that will open October 1st. This webinar will be hosted by Mr. Bill Mack, the Associate Director of Financial Aid at UT Dallas. We look forward to you joining us. SAT Exams Saturday, September 26th LHS will be hosting SAT Exams on campus. Testing will begin at 8:00 a.m

Student Holiday Friday, October 9th - Monday, October 12th

PSAT-NMSQT Wednesday, October 14th PSAT-NMSQT will be hosted on October 14th. This will be for 10th and 11th grade students. We will host a morning and afternoon session to keep students socially distanced. Student testing information will be released at a later date.

Recognitions

Lovejoy Percussion Students Special recognition of the Class of 2020 Percussion Seniors for their contributions to the LISD Percussion Program over the last 7 years. Jake Bluestein Noah Cooper Sam Frazier Travis Sipes Jeremy Zhou Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition (High School) Lovejoy High School placed 6th in this competition with the judges commenting on the high caliber of our performance. Recordings from our percussion concert were submitted for this event. 1st and 2nd place in this competition are invited to perform a 1 hour concert in Indianapolis at the annual PAS International Convention. Dreadnought - Lovejoy Percussion Concert 2020 The Foundation for Music Education - Mark of Excellence (High School) The Lovejoy HS Percussion Ensemble placed 2nd and was selected as a Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence/National Percussion Ensemble Honors. Recordings from our percussion concert were submitted for this event. Congratulations!

Cross Country  The JV and Varsity Boys competed at the Marcus Invitational on Friday 9.18.20. The Varsity boys placed 2nd overall to Decatur and the JV boys won their division. Josh Bittlestone won the JV Boys Division and Joe Bluestein placed 4th overall in the Varsity Boys Division.

The Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas released Poll #2 this week. Lovejoy Girls are ranked #4 and Lovejoy Boys are ranked #5 in the State.

Lovejoy Tennis Lovejoy Varsity and JV Tennis defeated Wylie East 18-1 last week and are 2-0 in district play. Next up will be the Princeton Panthers. Varsity will be at home on Tuesday and JV will travel to Princeton on Thursday. Come and cheer on your Leopards on Tuesday!
