The district’s communication plan includes updates regarding Board meetings. Following each meeting of the Board of Trustees, we share a recap of the evening’s events.

Following is the April 19, 2021 Board Brief.
The Board meeting was called to order at 5:32 PM with the Board retiring into Executive Session at 5:36 PM. Executive Session is a time where limited items such as personnel matters may be discussed. No votes are taken in Executive Session. The Board remained in Executive Session until 7:00 PM, at which time they recessed. The Board reconvened in Open Session at 7:09 PM.
The pledges were led by Lovejoy Elementary School third grader Pike Johnston.

Chris Mayfield, Principal of Lovejoy High School, recognized the Lovejoy High School Speech and Debate UIL Congress State Champions.
|

Chris Mayfield, Principal of Lovejoy High School, introduced Kara Adler, Journalism Teacher. Mrs. Adler recognized The Red Ledger for their Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Crown Award and the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Finalist Award.

Chris Mayfield, Principal of Lovejoy High School, introduced Rebecca Pollard, Yearbook Teacher. Mrs. Pollard recognized the Lovejoy High School Yearbook staff for their Columbia Scholastic Press Association Silver Crown Award.

Dr. Fela Mathy, Director of Fine Arts, introduced Brice McCasland, K-12 Visual Arts Coordinator. Mr. McCasland recognized the Lovejoy Visual Arts Scholastic Art and Writing Regional and National Gold, Silver and Honorable Mention award winners and the 2021 Young American Talent Art Competition and Exhibition award winners.

Chris Ross, Head Athletic Director, introduced Head Swim and Dive Coach Matt Franks. Coach Franks recognized the athletes who competed in the State Swim meet.

Regular Board Meetings contain an opportunity for Public Comments. There were three public comments related to non-agenda items:
- Anna Sides spoke in reference to Lovejoy Elementary and sign removal

- Ariel Feldman spoke in reference to LHS Class of 2021 events

The Board of Trustees approved the Consent Agenda which included:
Dr. Dennis Womack, Interim Superintendent, Shay Adams, Chief Financial Officer, and Dennis Muizers, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented a budget update which may be found here.

The Board of Trustees tabled the following board agenda items and scheduled a Special Board Workshop to begin at 7:30 PM on Sunday, April 25 in the Lovejoy Elementary School Gym:
Chris Ross, Athletic Director, presented an update on athletic facilities which may be found here.

Chad Collins, Board President, announced that all Board Members have met or exceeded the annual required continuing education requirements. Details may be found here.
Dr. Dennis Womack, Interim Superintendent, announced the following:
- There is an opportunity on Thursday for Board members to volunteer with the service learning project at Willow Springs Middle School.
- There was an amazing art gallery show at the administration building prior to the Board meeting.
- This was a great night of celebrating student successes in swim, visual arts, journalism, yearbook, and speech and debate.
- Thank you to the Board for all they do.
Chad Collins, Board President, thanked the community for attending the meeting this evening and reminded everyone the next meeting will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
With there being no further business, the Board adjourned at 11:18 PM.
