Message from Mayor Hornbaker
Good Wednesday to you, Lovettsville! There's been a lot happening in and around town, so let's get to it!
First, the Town celebrated the 30th Lovettsville Oktoberfest on September 25-26, 2026. Congratulations to Ben and Jamie Hogan for their reign as Oktoberfest King and Queen which will have you see them at many of the Town's events throughout 2026 and 2027! Additionally, we congratulate Squid Blaikie for successfully defending his Kaiser Cup Championship! We would also like to thank all of the businesses, sponsors, vendors, town staff, and volunteers who made the Lovettsville Oktoberfest a rousing success! It was great to see it back in downtown Lovettsville and the dozen or so biergartens with the "Sip and Stroll" (DORA) walking district, Vendor Village on the Squirkle, and great German-inspired foods that made it a record Oktoberfest for many of our businesses! We look forward to seeing everyone for another great 'Fest next year on September 24-25!
Additionally, the 9th annual Walk for Mountains took place on the Town Green this past Saturday, October 3, 2026. I thank Nicole Clark, Founder and "CEO" of W4M, for the continued partnership with the Town of Lovettsville to put on such a great fundraiser for the Loudoun Breast Health Network, StepSisters and Our Perfect Warrior. It was another well attended walk with great entertainment, refreshments, and a celebration of those who fought and are still fighting against breast cancer! We look forward to next year's walk, and you can find out more about W4M at walk4mountains.org.
This past Sunday, we celebrated the life and memory of John L. Fuog with John Fuog Day in the Town of Lovettsville. I also attended the memorial service for John on Sunday and shared the Proclamation with the large crowd in attendance. We appreciate all John did for the Town and surrounding community and may his contributions to our town forever endure!
Finally, I wanted to share a few updates on the Valley Link North project. First, the Town of Lovettsville will be participating in the second round of Valley Link "tech-to-tech" meetings currently scheduled for the week of October 12-16. In these meetings, Valley Link will show the updated study segment map and gather additional feedback. The next series of Valley Link open houses on the Valley North project will be held in November with details to be mailed to landowners on or about October 13. Additionally, Valley Link plans to publish the open house details and updated maps on their website at https://www.vltransmission.com on October 13. As a reminder, Valley Link is not submitting a preferred route to the SCC until late spring/early summer of 2027 and once Valley Link submits its application to the SCC next year, the SCC's process which includes public input will begin. The Town of Lovettsville remains steadfast in our opposition to the Valley Link North project as currently proposed, will continue advocating for alternative solutions which minimize the impacts of any lines to the Lovettsville community, and we look forward to continuing to work with all stakeholders to meet that objective! 📌 Please Use Water Wisely 🚰 As Loudoun County remains in a drought warning status, this is just a friendly reminder to please use water wisely, and to please resolve any ongoing water leaks. 👉 While there is not a mandatory conservation in place for the Lovettsville area at this time, we are asking all residents to please use water wisely. Examples include running your washing machine and dishwasher only when full, taking shorter showers, refraining from washing cars and watering lawns, and as always, to resolve any ongoing water leaks. 💙 As we continue to monitor drought conditions, updates will be provided. We appreciate your partnership in using our water wisely.
📌 Lovettsville Veterans Day Ceremony It was over a hundred years ago at 11AM on 11/11 (November 11, 1918) when the armistice began which ended World War I. Visit our Town Website for status updates on all of our active projects including Loudoun County projects affecting our area to include the Valley North Electrical Transmission Line Project and the Roundabout at Route 9 and Route 287. 📌 Upcoming Projects: Town Center Well Rehabilitation: The Town’s Utility Department completed the comprehensive rehabilitation of one of the Town’s four wells, referred to as Town Center Well, that is located on the Town Green behind the Walker Pavilion. The rehabilitation comprised of the replacement of a 20+ year pump, replacement of aged steel return pipes, an acid treatment and brushing of the well, all of which were preventive maintenance measures to ensure longevity and improved running levels of the well. Due to the equipment required to complete the rehabilitation, the large vegetation surrounding the well site was permanently removed. The rehabilitation and fencing are now complete. Native and deer resistant plantings have been identified, and mulch is scheduled to be installed in the coming weeks to coincide with mulching of welcome sign. Administrative Building Renovation: On August 6th, construction commenced at the Administrative Building of the Sam A. Finz Municipal Complex to relocate the existing kitchenette to create a new office space for Town staff. Substantial completion of construction has been implemented, and final inspections have been approved. Miscellaneous items such as trim work are now in progress.
