I'm loving Sophie Scarves!
Knitting Friends --
Over the holidays I put aside my bigger knitting projects and got caught on knitting the Sophie Scarf. It's a garter stitch design with I-cord edges that knits up fast.
Twisp -- Suggested yarn for Sophie Scarves

The pattern, is easy to remember and great for take-along knitting or by-the-TV knitting. Since my spouse and I are watching a lot of sports (mostly basket ball now), these little Sophies are perfect for our moments together.
My Sophie #1 was knit with My Sophie #1 was knit with HiKoo Twisp in a great middle-of-the-road blue called "Lakeshore," color 6004. I gave that one to a friend.
Sophie #2 is also a Twisp scarf knit in "Natural," color 6003. I knit the larger size that wraps around my neck twice and I love it! I wear it with a denim big shirt and leggings.
These little scarves add fashion punch to an outfit and are really warm -- kind of like having a turtleneck on.
For Sophie #3 I went back to Twisp in Lakeshore again. I liked #1 so much that I'm repeating it for my own scarf drawer
Sophie #4 was knit using a discontinued yarn, Zitron's Savannah, a mostly cotton yarn. It's a deep salmon color -- not red, not orange -- but a color that looks great with my blue denim big shirt. (No photos of #4 -- just mentioning it the keep the counting going!)
I'm using Zauberball Crazy Cotton for Sophie #5. It's fun to see this multicolor yarn play out its magic as the rows go by. It's color 2368 "Masquerade" and will change from blues and pinks to gold and purple.
Needle information
I use both a 16" circular US #5 and/or a set of vintage aluminum DPNs that I've had for decades. You can see both styles of needles in the above photo.
Since a scarf is basically a swatch, gauge is relative. Start a scarf, knit 6-8 inches, and see if you like the needle size you've chosen. If not, pull it out and change to different needles.
Using a circular needle for a little project means that the needle is always attached to the knitting. There's less searching for a dropped needle down the side of an airplane seat or behind the sofa!
Using the vintage DPNs takes me back to my early days of knitting (those could be BOYE needles purchased from a five and ten store in Ripon, Wisconsin where I went to high school). That brings back memories!
I hope you'll try this little scarf. Suggestions for yarn to order are in the next box.
Happy knitting!
