Free Christmas Tree Pickup

If you have garbage service with the Town’s provider, Waste Connections, you can take advantage of free curbside pickup of your Christmas tree this month! A separate truck will travel the garbage route picking up Christmas trees.

Homes EAST of CO Blvd

Here are some tips to ensure successful disposal of your tree:

  • Only real trees can be picked up
  • Remove lights, ornaments, bulbs, and all other electrical features and decorations
  • If your tree is larger than 6 feet in length, break it down into smaller bundles and place them next to your garbage tote
  • Place your tree curbside next to your garbage tote
  • Make sure that your tree does not block access to your garbage tote

What if I have a different garbage service provider?

Check out the Greeley Organic Waste Center or the Larimer County Landfill as additional facilities that may offer green waste disposal.

2024 Municipal Election

The Town of Johnstown will hold a municipal election on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Three positions on the Town Council and the Mayoral position will be on the ballot for consideration by the registered electors of Johnstown.

Are you interested in making an impact by guiding the future of Johnstown? Prospective candidates may pick up a nomination petition packet from the Town Clerk’s Office beginning on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Council candidates can expect to spend 15 hours per week preparing for and attending meetings and representing the community at local events if elected. Mayoral candidates can expect to spend 30 hours per week preparing for and attending meetings, representing the community at local events and meeting with residents, business owners and Town staff.

Anyone planning on running for office must be a registered elector, a resident of Johnstown and have lived in the community for at least 12 consecutive months.

All petitions are due to the Town Clerk’s office no later than Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at 5 p.m.

Recognizing our 2023 Businesses of the Month

This past year, our Business of the Month program highlighted the contributions of these great businesses to the Johnstown community. These nine establishments are a diverse mix of food and drink, health and beauty, and personal service businesses. Something they have in common? A burgeoning reputation for commendable service and making Johnstown a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Code Officer Rebeca Farris

We are very proud of Code Officer Farris and the hard work she has done with the Weld Elves program! She is putting smiles on lots of children’s faces in the Johnstown community by delivering gifts to children who are facing limitations in their homes. Officer Farris always has a smile on her face and has a knack for putting a smile on the faces of everyone around her.

She has done much of the fundraising, including attending a Tip-a-Cop event where officers participated in serving for a restaurant and donating the tips they received to Weld Elves.

She also attended many different community events throughout the summer to raise funds for the program. She coordinated a donor night with SCHEELS at which they were able to purchase tens of thousands of dollars of toys for kids in our area. Finally, she has been instrumental in moving the operations of Weld Elves to a new storage facility earlier in the year and has coordinated the wrapping, organization and delivery of the toys to families in our jurisdiction and all referrals for the entire county. Thank you Officer Farris for your service and your dedication to helping youth in our community!

Shovel Snow Smartly

Snow removal in and around Town is a collaborative effort. Here are some tips for keeping your neighborhood safe after snowfall:

  • Clear snow from the sidewalks in front of and adjacent to property within 24 hours of the end of snowfall
  • When clearing snow, move snow towards grass not into the public Right of Way (roads, sidewalks, public parking areas)
  • Keep drains and gutters free of snow to help prevent ice buildup that could create hazards on sidewalks

Water and Wastewater Rate Increase

In November 2023, the Council amended water and wastewater services charges for 2024. The increase will go into effect on the February 2024 utility bill. The increase will help cover the costs of a new Water Treatment Plant, a new Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, and a raw water trunk line. These improvements will allow us to meet current and future demands, ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements, and continue to improve the taste and odor of water supplied to customers. Find more information about utility billing and view the fee schedule on our website.
