Dear Lower School Families,
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey we shared over the weekend. As a research-informed school, the data you provided is so important as we continue to improve distance learning and ensure continuity of education for our students during this unprecedented time. Thanks to the connections we have forged through the CTTL, we have also been able to draw on a wide network of thinkers and peer schools to refine our teaching and learning practices.
In the opening weeks of the Distance Learning plan, the Lower School focused on community building and familiarity with technology apps. Your feedback affirms that the children remain excited and curious learners during distance learning and have adapted to this approach of virtual instruction. With this foundation in place, our homeroom teachers are now utilizing synchronous learning sessions for more direct instruction in the core curricular areas, including Language Arts, Math, Writing, and Social Studies. Special subject teachers will continue to upload assignments on a rotating schedule and are now joining Morning Meetings on the days they are scheduled to review instructions and discuss learning goals.
Each day teachers are making adjustments to support student learning and mirror a typical in-school day whenever possible. However, research and direct experience teach us that Lower School students should not have several hours of “screen time” each day. Therefore our teachers will continue to balance direct on-screen instruction with assigned activities that elementary students can complete independently and preschool students can complete with parent/guardian support. We appreciate all your efforts at home in support of your child's learning.
Thank you for your continued trust and support of our faculty as we work together to educate your children. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.
