Lower School News

Please remember that Monday is Labor Day and we are closed in celebration of the holiday. We will see you all Tuesday, September 3!
We had a fabulous opening of school. The children are happy, excited to see their friends, and are working diligently. Our Head of School Mrs. Adrianne Finley Odell spoke to the student body at our Opening of School Assembly of Roycemore's Core Values and also on how we can all help others through service. You will hear more about this as we approach Leadership Week.

The first through fourth graders celebrated the first week by having a student scavenger hunt on Friday afternoon, which was really an excuse to enjoy each others' company and enjoy a special treat.

All the children in Lower School received a new Roycemore t-shirt on Friday. Please have your children wear it on all field trips.

MINIATURE SCHOOL: THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 5:45-7:30
Thursday evening, September 5 is Miniature School. It is a wonderful way to meet your children's teachers and learn how you and the school can partner to help your children excel. You will be receiving an invitation. Lower School Parents will gather in the MPR at 5:45 to hear a welcome from our Head of School Adrianne Finley Odell. Then there will be visits to the classroom and special teachers. Childcare is available all evening. You should have received other information, click on that link or email me at [email protected]

HOURS OF SCHOOL AND MORNING INFORMATION
Our hours of operation remain the same. School officially begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:15, except on Thursday, when it ends at 2:00. The building will be accessible to students daily from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. For their safety, please do not have students arrive at school prior to 7:30, as they will not be able to enter the building and there will be no supervision available. At 7:30, the Morning Room (EDP Room, G01) will open. It is located very close to the double yellow doors from the garage. It will be staffed by teachers. Please bring all Lower School children who come to school before 8:20 to that room as a safety measure. Thank you!

ATTENDANCE
Whenever your child is ill or you know your son or daughter will be absent on an upcoming day due to a medical appointment or other needed reason, please be sure to email your teacher and  [email protected] .

MEDICAL FORMS
If your child is a new student or entering Kindergarten, we must have copies of their Certificate of Child Health Exam, Proof of School Dental Exam and Eye Exam Report forms by the first day of school. 2 nd  graders need proof of dental exams.
These forms are available on our website at  https://roycemoreschool.org/parents/roycemore-school-parent-resources/ .   State law requires these forms be on file by the first day of school and your child cannot attend school without them.
Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten students do NOT need an eye exam.

WHAT'S COOL ABOUT LOWER SCHOOL!
THE LEADER IN ME
We are in our fourth year of the  Leader in Me  program.  It is a very positive social, emotional learning program based on Stephen Covey’s Seven  Habits of Highly Successful People .
The goal of the  Leader in Me  is for students to understand that they all have the essential qualities to become leaders. The  Leader in Me  also helps to create a common language within our school by teaching the students the Seven Habits. We will be also showing how the Seven Habits and our School Core Values of Scholarship, Integrity, Respect, Community and Compassion complement each other.

Teachers will be teaching the Seven Habits, imbedding them in their lessons and hopefully encouraging all the children to know that they can be leaders and do what is right.    It is a truly positive message that each child is a leader. The following is a quick overview, but they really encompass much more.

The Seven Habits:
Habit 1: Be Proactive  •  You're in Charge
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind •  Have a Plan
Habit 3: Put First Things First  •  Work First, Then Play
Habit 4: Think Win-Win  •  Everyone Can Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood •  Listen Before You Talk
Habit 6: Synergize  •  Together Is Better
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw  •  Balance Feels Best

We will also be introducing Calm Classroom this year to augment the Leader in Me program. Calm Classroom teaches mindfulness with breathing, focusing and stretching activities.

Your teachers will be talking about both of these programs in more depth on Thursday evening. We are hoping that you too will use the language with your children. I think you will see positive results when we are all working together for your children.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND LOWER SCHOOL
  1. In Lower School we believe that children learn best when they do not have to sit at desks all day. Check out all the flexible seating our kids enjoy, even the floor!
2. Orientation was so much fun for everyone! This is where all the Lower School families get to bring their children to school before it officially starts, so they feel comfortable from day one.
PICTURES FROM THE WEEK!
Most of these are pictures what you have read above.
