Parenting In a Pandemic with less Pandemonium

We aren’t all first responders but as parents we are all front line workers of a sort. Our worlds have collided and parked right in our homes. We are working remotely, running households as safely as we can, and managing our finances in an economic crises. We are working with Roycemore’s staff to provide an optimal remote- learning experience for your children. Above all we are searching for answers to questions about how to do all this in the best way possible.  How will this affect my child in the long run How do I ensure they are working and not gaming while on their screens How do I respond to the meltdowns? The most poignant of these questions is  Am I doing this right?

We are doing a question and answer session with parents of Lower school students on Tuesday May 5th at 4:00 pm, using Zoom. While Dr. Glader will be on hand to help with the questions, this is also a forum to exchange ideas and proved support to each other within the amazing community that we have here at Roycemore. If you have a minute and would like to send questions beforehand, address them to Dr Glader at  gglader@roycemoreschool.org
Gretchen Glader is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Lower School Head Search
As most of you know, this will be my last year as Lower School Head. I am retiring at the end of the school year. I loved working with you and know that the next head will experience the same warmth and love that I received from all of you.
During the weeks leading up to our remote learning, the search committee was fully engaged in the search for the next Lower School Head. There timeline got thrown off quite a bit but I am pleased to share with you that the search committee has invited four finalists to interview in the next two weeks. Their interview times have been set up so that they will spend the first half of the interview with parents and the second half with faculty. The schedule was sent out in an email from Adrianne. Hopefully you can join in for all or part of the interviews. Following each interview, Adrianne will send out a feedback form for you to share your impressions. The last two candidates are this week and I hope you will participate in the Zoom Meetings for parents.

What's Happening Around Lower School
One of the hallmarks of Lower School is our Monday Morning Meeting, which is run by the Leaders of the Lower School, the fourth grade for all the children of Lower School from kindergarten through fourth. We are still having our meeting, but it is now on Zoom. Alexandra was our Leader of the Week, Madeline led us in a game, We all said the Leader in Me Pledge, We sang Happy Birthday to our friends who are celebrating. It was a fun meeting.
The third grade students were asked to detail at least 10 facts about their topic from their nonfiction reading done in Epic books or by using the Google safe browser and include at least 3 pictures. Way to go 3rd graders! Click on the link to see what they produced. You will be impressed.
Just because we are not physically in school, we can still celebrate Earth Day.

The special teachers are still teaching your children and encouraging them to have fun with their subjects. One of the challenges in music was to make their own instrument. What a good job!

I this time of remote learning, off-line learning as seen, is fun and great for our kids. In the early childhood classes, the children were sent home with bags of materials to work with. Here are some of the second round of bags available for pick-up from Mrs. Smith's porch.
