October 5, 2020
Dear Families of Students in Grades 3-5,
I hope you are doing well. As many of you already know, there are many changes in how things are done during the school day. In Lower School Strings, we will be doing our best to work with these changes as well.
This year, we will begin on Monday, October 12th, and we will be dividing students up by grade level for strings. Even if a student plays at a different level than the class for their age, they will be placed in their grade-level class due to Columbus Academy’s commitment to keeping students separated by grade/homeroom.
Moreover, because of social distancing rules and regulations, we will be unable to offer beginning strings this year. Beginning a student on a string instrument requires a great deal of help in adjusting how an instrument is held as well as the student’s posture and a number of other things that would not be possible with the six-foot distance regulations.
This year, Dr. Lee and I will be team teaching many classes. There will be a Third Grade Strings, Fourth Grade Strings and a Fifth Grade Orchestra. The schedule for these classes will be as follows:
Mondays: Mr. Wong and Dr. Lee with Grade 5 from 3:30-4:15 p.m.
Tuesdays: Mr. Wong and Dr. Lee with Grade 3 from 3:25-3:55 and Grade 4 from 4:00-4:30
Wednesdays: Dr. Lee and Mr. Wong with Grade 5 from 3:30-4:15
Thursdays: Mr. Wong with Grade 3 from 3:25-3:55 and Grade 4 from 4:00-4:30
Fridays: Mr. Wong and Dr. Lee with Grade 5 from 3:30-4:15
If you have already filled out the form I sent home, we have accounted for your participation. If you have not already submitted your information but are interested in signing up your child for strings this year, please fill out this form and submit it to us by this Thursday, October 8th. We will begin Lower School Strings on Monday, October 12th, with our Fifth Grade Orchestra.
Thank you and have a great end of the week,
Academy Orchestra Director
