The 13th vintage in four decades! Since debut in 1985 with the 1976!

2013 Piper Rare Millesime Brut Vintage Champagne

  • Enjoy now or age until 2044

  • Only 500 cases imported

  • 2013 = 97pt Vintage in Champagne

This tete de cuvée is only made only made in years when weather conditions are considered perfect for what their cellarmaster Regis Camus calls 'an extraordinary cuvée', when the grapes receive enough heat to become truly lush. The first Rare vintage was made in 1976 after an incredibly intense heatwave. Since then, there have only been 13 Rare cuvées: 1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2006, 2007 (their first-ever rosé), 2008 and 2008 rosé, and now the 2013.

Rare cuvées can contain up to 17 crus, from some of the best sites throughout the Champagne region. The blends can be different from one vintage to another, too: their Cellar Master blends among the different crus just like an artist would use different colors in his painting palette. The style remains the same but the components will change according to the vintage.

For more background on this exceptional Champagne, check out Master of Wine Anne Krebiehl's recent Decanter Magazine article here.

And in case you haven't heard yet, 2013 was another great vintage for Champagne, as you can see in this quote from Antonio Galloni:

"The best wines, those from sites with low yields, show tremendous concentration, depth and power allied to bright acidities and low pHs, a version of 2008 but with more mid-palate richness."

We have just 9 bottles left at the lowest pricing in the country!

2013 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne

98 Points Jeb Dunnuck:

"Originally a part of the legendary Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house, Rare is moving their Champagne Millésime to a new brand and wants it to stand alone. (Think Delamotte and Salon.) The 13th vintage for this cuvée, the 2013 Champagne Millésime is a blend of 70% Chardonnay with the rest Pinot Noir, with the majority of the blend coming from the Montagne de Reims Grand Cru and Premier Cru. A bright yellow hue, its aromatics are exquisite and well-balanced, with fresh notes of key lime, candied apple, fresh croissant dough, fresh pineapple, and honeysuckle. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with a rounded and supple texture and a pillowy mousse. It’s long on the palate and has a silky personality as well as a long, pristine finish. It has a fantastic balance of decadence and freshness, and I could drink this all day. It’s going to have a long drinking window. Drink 2024-2044 and beyond. Disgorged December 2022." (Nov 2023)

96 Points - James Suckling:

"Such a pleasingly elegant and multifaceted Champagne with salty, creamy and toasty elements all wound together. Plenty of apricot pastries, pears, brown butter, fennel and salted almonds, with some iodine. It’s silky on the palate, with soft and supple bubbles, while remaining fresh and on edge. 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir, from 11 cru villages mostly in Montagne de Reims with Côtes de Blancs. Disgorged December 2022. 9 g/L dosage. Drink or hold." (Aor 2023)

96 Points - Decanter Magazine:

"The nose opens with an initial whiff of creaminess, followed by hints of creamy polenta and tart yet aromatic citrus and chalk. The palate is immediately striking with saltiness and savouriness. The foam is rich and tiny bubbles burst, releasing the citric charm of lemon and white grapefruit. There is something driven, vertical and precise on the taut body, softened by that creamy generosity and subtle oyster shell appeal of the mousse. The finish holds a delicious frisson of white pepper and grapefruit zest spice. A very straight-laced wine for now that will unfold in its long future." (Jun 2023)

95 Points Wine Spectator:

"An elegant, finessed Champagne, with the creamy mousse carrying a finely meshed yet concentrated range of blackberry puree and poached apricot flavors, plus blood orange peel, salted pistachio and aromatic accents of verbena, chalk and oyster shell. Shows mouthwatering acidity that carries the complex profile on the long finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2038. 500 cases imported." - AN (Nov 2023)

95 Points Wine Enthusiast:

"The Champagne's name is just right. It has a rare finesse that gives it a wonderful tense character. Poised between dryness, great maturity and dense fruit, the wine is ready to drink." - Roger Voss (Dec 2023)

93 Points Wine Advocate:

"The "The 2013 Brut Cuvée Rare evokes a fresh and minty bouquet complemented by aromas of white fruit, notably pear and apple, spring flowers and gentle spices with a hint of citrus. With aeration, elegant pastry notes come to the fore. On the palate, this is a moderately weighted, tension-filled yet airy Champagne with bright acidity, indicative of a cool-weather vintage, and a delicately smoky finish. Although already thoroughly enjoyable, it should age well over the next 10 years." - YC (Nov 2023)

We have done our best to produce a similar environment for this ancient fish in our Greek farm which is now Eco Certified. We hope you enjoy this unique inspired imported caviar from our partner EU farm.
