Catch Up with the Equity Group TONIGHT on Teams

The Equity Group is hosting a virtual Teams meeting Tonight, December 1st, at 7:30pm. We will share updates on the projects we’re working on: multicultural books in classrooms, the philanthropy initiative, and multicultural events. We’ll also welcome discussion and ideas from anyone who wishes to share. Click here to join the meeting, or contact the Equity Chair with any questions.

Participate in the Loyal Heights Elementary Blood Drive During December!

Loyal Heights Elementary is leading by example by sponsoring a Virtual Blood Drive campaign from December 4th through December 31st. We are challenging you to be a Life-Saving Hero and donate blood this holiday season at any Bloodworks NW Donor Center or pop-up location. Every pint of blood donated is an immeasurable contribution to the community.

Here is how you can take part:

Step 1: Schedule an appointment to donate whole blood or apheresis platelets/double reds/plasma with Bloodworks. (Same-day appointments are often available by calling 800-398-7888 for last-minute availability.)

Step 2: On the day of your donation, mention Loyal Heights Elementary or the donor code "LHE" when you are getting checked in so we can keep track of our impact.

For additional registration information, please click here.

This effort holds very special meaning to our very own, Ms. Gayan. In her words:

Thank you to Gretchen Maletich and the LHE PTA for organizing the Loyal Heights Elementary December Blood Drive. Every two seconds, someone in the US requires a blood transfusion due to emergencies, heart surgery, organ transplant or cancer treatment. This became deeply personal to my family in the past few months as we've dealt with my husband, Ben's, unfortunate diagnosis of lymphoma. Ben has received numerous transfusions throughout his treatment, and we can attest to the life-saving impact that your blood donation can have. Thank you so much for your support!

With gratitude and love,

Jackie, Ben, Bryce, and Keira Gayan-McKinley

Loyal Heights community, there is an emergency need for blood donations & we have a chance to make a real difference! If you have any questions at all please contact Gretchen Maletich.

Yuen Lui Picture Day

School Picture Retake Day is December 6th

Retake Instructions:

  • Preordered Photos: If you pre-ordered photos of your student and would like a retake, have your student bring their photo package with them to school to give to the photographer for a complimentary retake (a retake order will be issued at no charge). These ship to the school to be distributed within three weeks. Digital orders will be emailed.

  • Absent or Photographed without Ordering: Students who were absent on picture day or photographed and didn’t place an order can have a retake and preorder a photo package. These orders ship to the school to be distributed within three weeks. Digital orders will be emailed.

Not sure you need a retake? You can view School Picture Day gallery by visiting Yuen Lui’s website and entering your student’s online code (school ID number). If you like the photo, you can still place an order online at any time. These orders ship directly to students’ homes.

Questions? Please contact Yuen Lui.

Support Health Equity: Culturally Inclusive First Aid Kits/Training

Rainier Beach High School graduate, Ifrah Abshir, and her organization, Blkpatch, are working to raise money to provide one culturally inclusive first aid kit with a 40-minute training to each Rainier Beach High School student before winter break. Winter break is a time when many students won't have access to health care and emergency services through schools.

As background, Ifrah was instrumental in the Orca card campaign to get free Orca cards to SPS students. The Orca card campaign started at Rainier Beach and was expanded across the district. Similarly, Blkpatch is starting with this distribution pilot at Rainier Beach High School to prove the concept to the City of Seattle, with the goal of expanding it across the district.

The PTA Staff Appreciate Committee Is Looking For New Members!

We love showing our LHE teachers and staff how valued they are. We are looking for a few people to join the staff appreciation committee to help us do just that! We need people willing to plan one-time staff appreciation events or gifts, from potlucks to letter-writing campaigns to gift cards.

Please contact Shannon (Committee Co-Chair) for more information.

Join the Loyal Heights PTA!

It's not too late to join! Through events and fundraising, we are able to help with instructional support of teachers, facility improvements, enrichment programs (such as Science Fair, Student Council, the Arts, Equity Round Table, etc!) and so much more! Membership is only $15, and comes with zero obligations.

Our success depends on our members. If you registered in prior years, you will still need to renew your membership for this school year. Please help us reach this goal while supporting the work and programs the PTA provides all year.

Volunteer at Loyal Heights!

Our school is always looking for volunteers to help with programs, events, and classroom activities running. When volunteers commit to serving at a school, students achieve higher grades, have access to more opportunities, and gain community connections to help them thrive.

IMPORTANT: All returning AND new volunteers for the 2022-2023 school year are required to have an approved Volunteer Application on file.

Returning volunteers: If you plan to volunteer in any capacity during the 2022-2023 school year, please make sure that your Volunteer Application is approved and up to date before you start volunteering.

New volunteers:  All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application Form online which includes completing an online training video (Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention Safety), and background check. Instructions for updating and completing Volunteer Applications can be found here.

Please Note: Mr. Steve receives Volunteer Status Updates from the district once a week on Wednesdays. Please make sure that your applications are completed/updated at least 2 weeks before you plan on volunteering. Updates and applications created after Tuesday evenings will not be reviewed until the following Wednesday.

Contact Steve Beaulieu in the office for more information or to confirm your Essential Volunteer status.
