Clubs and Activities at Loyola Blakefield
Loyola Blakefield is a home away from home for our students, where each finds his place to flourish. Our clubs and activities are that place for many Dons.
The variety within our 60+ clubs and activities ensures that every Don has a chance to share his passion (or discover a new one), form community and friendships, improve a skill, and meet teachers outside of the classroom.
We have something for everyone! Clubs like Quiz Bowl, Robotics, and Model UN, are competitive and demand deep commitment from our Dons. Other clubs, such as Super Smash Bros., Open Studio, and Culinary Club, serve as more casual places for students to build community over a shared interest.
I have been a teacher, an administrator, and a coach at Loyola for the last 25 years. At the start of this year, I assumed a role new to me and the school—Assistant Principal of Student Life—in which I discovered the true breadth and depth of our club offerings.
Anecdotally, I found myself in some new places last year:
- Judging a Speech & Debate tournament where I witnessed our Dons engaged and enlivened as they competed in their events;
- Picking up a group of exhausted Cyber Science Dons and their moderators from Dulles International Airport upon their return from Thailand where they represented Loyola, Maryland, and the United States in competition;
- Sitting with the Off-Script: Comedy/Improv moderator as the students critiqued and honed performances for their upcoming and inaugural show.
- Planning with student leaders of our Spikeball Club in preparation for their inaugural match against Mount St. Joe.
In these places and so many more I discovered Dons at home in their home-away-from-home engaged, connected and thriving.
See you at the upcoming Fall production of The Outsiders by the Blakefield Players!
