Dear Loyola Families,
We are reaching out in light of the recent school shooting that occurred in Minneapolis this morning at a Catholic School. We extend our prayers and sympathies to those that have been affected.
Loyola Administration has met with the Director of Mankato Public Safety, Jeremy Clifton, and Police Commanders Craig Frericks and Justin Neumann. First and foremost according to these law enforcement officials, there is no direct threat to Loyola at this time. However, we know that events like this can be unsettling, especially in the context of recent incidents.
Out of an abundance of caution and to prioritize the safety of our students and staff, we are taking the following steps:
-
Increased police presence will be visible on and around campus, both inside and outside, as a precautionary measure. Beginning immediately, we have secured their presence between the hours of 7:00am until 6:00pm.
-
Building hardening measures are being reviewed and reinforced to ensure all safety protocols are in place. At this time Police Commander Justin Neumann is reviewing the recent security upgrades that we made since his last visit. He is also helping us identify any current vulnerabilities.
-
8/22/25 Unidentified Individual- We asked law enforcement if there is any current evidence of a tie between the Minneapolis shooting and the unidentified individual on Loyola’s campus. Law enforcement stated that there is no evidence to show any ties at this point. They have assured us that they are continuing the investigation and putting additional resources into identifying the 8/22 individual.
-
Cancellation of School- Unless there is a known direct threat to Loyola, we will not be cancelling school or any activities. We will continue with the elevated security measures listed above. We have a Crisis Management Plan of Action that has been in place and we will activate it when it’s appropriate.
We understand the concerns the community has expressed and the safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority. Thank you for your continued commitment to the Loyola community.
