The March of Dimes, a leading non-profit organization for pregnancy and baby health, hosted its 11th  Annual Celebration of New Beginnings breakfast on Monday, Dec. 5, in Edison, NJ.  The Celebration of New Beginnings strives to increase public awareness about the prevention of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, and the promise of cutting-edge research in the areas of maternal and infant health in New Jersey.

The 2011 event was chaired by Kaufman Zita Group (KZG) Senior Vice President Jeannine LaRue, who has had a particular interest in issues affecting women and children. Jeannine, having a grandchild born prematurely weighing 1 1/2 lbs at birth a decade ago, understands the daily challenges families face when raising children with disabilities.

"The Celebration of New Beginnings recognized that regardless of where we may live, regardless of our political affiliations, race, sexual orientation or gender, we are all touched by the issue of pregnancy and baby health. I was proud to be involved with Monday's event to show our support for the health of mothers and babies of New Jersey," said Jeannine.

This year, the Celebration of New Beginnings honored Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and KZG client Mark Trudeau, President and CEO of Bayer Healthcare with the "FDR Visionary Award" in recognition of their tremendous leadership and support for the cause.

The Honorable Kim Guadagno - the first woman in history to hold the title of Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey - sets a great example for female leadership and dedication to children and family. She has dedicated her professional life to the service of New Jersey, while successfully managing her role as a mother of three children.

Mark Trudeau, President and CEO of Bayer HealthCare, a KZG client, has also demonstrated his service to the state by helping secure New Jersey's proud status as the "Medicine Chest of the World." Under his leadership, the company provided tremendous support for a joint, national promotion that ran in 2011, "Girlfriends for Folate." Folate, a B vitamin that occurs naturally in food, helps prevent neural tube birth defects.

The highly successful fundraiser also featured remarks by Senators Joseph Vitale (D-Middlesex) and Robert Singer (R-Ocean) as well as the keynote address by Dr. Morris Cohen of Newark Beth Israel.

2012 Governor's Conference for Women Kicks Off with November Steering Committee Meeting

The 2012 NJ Governor's Conference for Women recently kicked off its annual planning process on Nov. 29, 2011 at the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) in Trenton, NJ.

Originally known as the "NJ Women's Summit," this conference was founded by KZG Senior Vice President Jeannine LaRue in 1993 through DCA while LaRue served as a NJ Casino Control Commissioner.

The first Conference was attended by

more than 500 women and men throughout the state; it now boasts over 2,000 participants. In 1996, LaRue suspended the NJ Women's Summit and collaborated with  Governor Christine Todd Whitman's Administration to support the newly-established Governor's Conference for Women which also operated out of DCA.  LaRue served on that Steering Committee and was the inaugural luncheon keynote speaker for that Conference.

This year's Conference now in its whose theme "Read All About It" addressed topics that touch on a broad range of occupations, races, ethnicities, religious preferences and income levels. Last year's agenda also featured educational workshops, motivational stories and networking opportunities with Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, former Governor Christie Whitman, Central Park Jogger Trisha Meili, and attorney, author, and 2011 Celebrity Apprentice Star Jones.

18th year will promote the theme, "It's All About You," which has been enthusiastically embraced by committee members. While the 2012 Conference website and logo are still in formation, interested registrants can go to the 2011 Conference.

The Annual Governor's Conference for Women will be held in Atlantic City, NJ, on May 8, 2012. LaRue has been honored by being appointed Chairman Emeritus of the Conference Steering Committee. "I'm humbled to wear the title Chairman Emeritus of an event that I know has changed the lives of women and men throughout this State," said LaRue. "The Governor's Conference for Women is a place where individuals can gather and become energized while soaking up an enormous amount of knowledge to advance their personal and professional lives for decades to come."

The very impressive line-up of Steering Committee members will be lead by Chairwoman Gail Gordon, Esq. with Vice Chairs being Liz Thomas and Jill Johnson.

Patrizia Zita, KZG Principal

Patrizia Zita, partner and co-founder of KZG, is among the Steering Committee roster serving for the first time. "I have been a regular attendee of this Conference and have benefitted so much from the sessions and the plenary groups," she said. "I'm eager to play such an active role in bringing together women from diverse backgrounds and experiences to unite under one cause."
