| | Lucy Corr Foundation Dental Clinic receives donation from community partner Central Virginia Dental Care | | |
Team members in the Lucy Corr Foundation Dental Clinic were all smiles earlier this month when they accepted a jumbo-sized, $11,057 check from Central Virginia Dental Care, PLC. The funds will convert directly into exams, fillings and dentures for seniors who might not otherwise afford them.
The gift represents proceeds from the organization’s annual charity golf tournament, held in June at Independence Golf Club. The tournament supports free and charitable clinics across the Richmond region.
Prior to this year’s tournament, Michael Hanley, DDS, the clinic’s dental medical director, requested that Central Virginia Dental Care include Lucy Corr among the beneficiaries.
“We jumped on board and said, absolutely,” said Laurie Henderson, administrative assistant at Central Virginia Dental Care.

| | Jane Spain writes her legacy in the Independent Living building | | |
When Jane Gibson Spain moved to Lucy Corr in 2009, she and her fellow residents discovered a shared problem: They had all brought too many books. Jane, a retired teacher who spent more than 20 years as a school librarian in Henrico County, knew what to do with them.
She spearheaded a committee of volunteers, and a collection that began in a borrowed cottage garage now fills a second-floor room in the Independent Living building. It was formally named the Jane Spain Library at a dedication ceremony in 2017.
There are no fines, late fees or checkout system. Residents take what they want and bring it back. At 91, after 17 years as Lucy Corr's volunteer librarian, Jane still assembles rotating themed displays, and she helped found a book club where she makes a point of championing Virginia writers.
"I just love the work," Jane said. "It doesn't seem like work to me."
| | Hospital partners and case managers get a closer look at Lucy Corr | | |
Hospital case managers, social workers and admissions staff visited Lucy Corr on Sept. 10 for the community’s first networking event built for its referral partners.
Guided tours set out every 30 minutes, with stops that included the Rehabilitation Center. The evening wrapped with gift card drawings and a takeaway bag for every guest.
The event was the idea of Keisha Baxter, director of admissions, who works with many of the attendees daily and wanted to give them a reason to visit.
“They’re referring to me all the time, but probably have never been here,” she said.
| | Meet Tiffany Cain, Lucy Corr's latest Ceca Award recipient | | |
Tiffany Cain, CNA, spends her days behind the scenes. So in August, when all eyes were on her in the Lucy Corr Health Care Center’s Mast Auditorium — where she received the facility’s latest Ceca Award and a $250 check — her first instinct was to head for the exit.
“I actually went out the door because I just couldn’t believe that it was me,” said Tiffany, Lucy Corr’s staffing coordinator.
Through its participation in the national Ceca Award program, Lucy Corr honors clinical and non-clinical team members whose everyday work reflects the organization’s values of care, compassion and kindness. Tiffany was recognized for her dedication to residents and her willingness to step in and support colleagues across the community.
“My main focus is always making sure the facility is staffed so the residents can get the correct and proper care,” she said.
