Finding home at Lucy Corr: Why Ruth Boyd never looked back

Ruth Boyd has lived independently her whole life. The youngest of six children, she was 5 years old when her mother passed away, and she largely raised herself. She married and raised two children in Chester. After her husband passed away nearly a decade ago, she spent five more years living on her own.

That changed when Ruth turned up at her daughter’s house with a black eye, having suffered a fall.

Her daughter picked up the phone and made an appointment at Lucy Corr for the next day.

A team member showed Ruth and her daughter the apartments at Springdale, Lucy Corr’s Independent Living, and walked them through everything the community offered. “It is perfect for me,” she said.

First clinicals, lasting impressions: Bryant & Stratton College nursing students train at Lucy Corr

Every nurse starts somewhere. Long before the charting and the clinical judgment comes a first patient: someone who needs help getting dressed, getting out of bed or getting to breakfast. Where a student learns that work shapes the kind of nurse they become.

For eight weeks this summer, four first-semester nursing students from Bryant & Stratton College spent their Wednesdays at Lucy Corr, earning clinical hours alongside residents in the Health Care Center.

Scheduler Tiffany Cain named latest Ceca Award recipient

Tiffany Cain, scheduler at Lucy Corr, is the latest recipient of the Ceca Award. Recognized this month, Tiffany was honored for her dedication to residents and her willingness to step in and support colleagues across the community.

Working behind the scenes, Tiffany helps ensure residents have the staffing support they need while managing the day-to-day challenges of scheduling with a team-first approach.

Through its participation in the national Ceca Award program, Lucy Corr honors clinical and non-clinical team members whose everyday work reflects the organization’s values of care, compassion and kindness.

Join us in congratulating Tiffany on this well-deserved recognition!

Beach party brings the shore to Lucy Corr

Independent Living residents traded Chesterfield County for the coast on Wednesday, Aug. 19, as they gathered in the Springdale Bistro for Lucy Corr's first-ever Beach Party.

The 3 p.m. start time turned out to be a suggestion. Guests began arriving 45 minutes early in leis, visors and floral shirts. Inflatable palm trees and seashell-and-sand centerpieces filled the room, with a pink flamingo standing guard over a wading pool packed with ice, wine and beer.
