Lucy Corr has joined the Ceca Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based, national organization dedicated to recognizing exceptional caregivers across health care communities. As part of its participation in the Ceca Award program, Lucy Corr has named Nurse Shakeama Burroughs, LPN, of the Health Care Center as its inaugural Ceca Caregiver Award recipient. Founded in 2013, the Ceca Foundation honors caregivers whose compassion, professionalism and dedication elevate the experiences of residents and families.

Jenae Briggs steps into Health Care Center Administrator role, earns LNHA licensure

Since joining Lucy Corr’s administrative staff eight years ago, Jenae Briggs has been guided by her commitment to serving residents and their families. As she enters a senior role — with a new certification and an award nomination under her belt — that dedication remains front and center.


Briggs was recently promoted to Health Care Center Administrator for Lucy Corr, one that coincides with two other significant achievements: earning her Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) credential and being nominated for the Southern Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Professionals list.

This month, Lucy Corr shared key leadership updates with the greater Richmond business community. In recent weeks, Jenae Briggs' new role and the arrival of Culinary Services Director Veronica Hernandez and Executive Chef Robert Drew appeared in Richmond BizSense's "The Herd."

Intern Kendall Mason grows toward promising future in health care

With intern Kendall Mason, Lucy Corr has welcomed a future health care professional already learning what it means to lead with care, compassion, and kindness.


Kendall is enrolled in Monacan High School’s Health Professions and Therapies (HPT) specialty program, a rigorous academic track designed to immerse students early in therapeutic and preventive health careers. Through HPT, upperclassmen complete a structured mentorship or internship totaling 160 hours, often leaving school early several days a week to gain real-world experience.

Board member Sarah Snead honored with Spirit of Wisdom Award

Sarah Snead, a Lucy Corr board member, received the Spirit of Wisdom Award on April 9 at Hanover County’s Spirit of Volunteerism Celebration. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate long-standing commitment to volunteer service.


Snead serves as board chair of The Span Center, the Lucy Corr Foundation, the Perkinson Center for the Arts & Education and Perkinson’s Foundation. She also serves as one of seven commissioners on the governing board of the Health Center Commission of Chesterfield County. In 2025, she contributed 210 volunteer hours to The Span Center, supporting thousands of meals, care hours and transportation services for older adults across Hanover County.


Her leadership reflects decades of service to older adults and caregivers, with a focus on supporting programs that deliver essential services across the community. Thank you, Sarah, for your leadership and service.

Register now for the Lucy Corr Foundation 5K on June 27

Whether you’re already lacing up your shoes for a relaxed walk or chasing a new personal best, the Lucy Corr Foundation 5K Family Fun Run & Walk is Saturday, June 27.


Join us on campus for a morning of fun, fitness and community.


Day-of registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the 5K run/walk will start at 9:30 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run will begin at 11 a.m. Registration is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the 1-mile event. The morning will also feature music, a food truck, kids’ activities and prizes.


Proceeds benefit the Lucy Corr Foundation and support programs and services that enhance the lives of older adults across our community and beyond. Holding the event on June 27 gives more friends, families and community members the opportunity to take part. We hope to see you there.

Community yard sale is set for May 30

Lucy Corr will host a community yard sale on May 30 on its campus, inviting neighbors to shop a range of items and connect with residents and staff. The event will also feature a Lucy Corr table benefiting the Lucy Corr Foundation, which supports programs that enhance residents’ lives. Vendor spaces are available for $25 and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Setup begins at 7:30 a.m., and vendors are asked to bring their own tables and chairs and remain for the duration of the event.

Golf Challenge tees up fun for Independent Living residents

This month, Independent Living residents took part in a golf challenge on campus, kicking off with CEO Mike Cunningham.


The event featured putting challenges and skill-based shots, with residents stepping up to test their swings and compete for prizes. Drinks were served and plenty of laughter followed.

Volunteers sought to launch resident garden

Lucy Corr is seeking volunteers to help establish a small vegetable garden for residents on campus. The effort will focus on preparing the space, planting vegetables and getting the garden ready for ongoing resident care. Residents are eager to maintain the garden once it is established, with gardening offering purpose, routine and connection. Individuals, families, local groups and businesses are encouraged to participate.
