Be sure to visit our educational channel on YouTube where we feature new stories weekly about rescued animals and the heroes who rescue, rehabilitate, adopt, or foster them. Please send stories of rescued animals you know who have survived against all odds and/or people you’d nominate as heroes and any wildlife sanctuary or domestic animal rescue who is doing amazing work for animals. Luke's OUTSTANDING Stars of the Month

Meet Mother/Daughter pilots Laurie & Arianna Strand who flew Arvy, the pelican, from Connecticut in their small plane all the way to Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida.

“Getting to play a part in Arvy’s rescue made me feel really great. It took a lot of people to help get her to her new home at Busch Wildlife. I am so happy to see how well she is doing now,” Laurie

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary Part 2: Arvy the Pelican

Above: Susan travels to the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary where she interviews Stephanie (hospital director) with Arvy the pelican’s incredible rescue from the freezing waters of Essex Connecticut and the long plane ride to sunny south Florida where Arvy underwent surgery for frostbite and an upper respiratory infection, ultimately surviving against all odds!

MEET THE AUTHOR, SUSAN BEATTIE

Susan was inspired not only to write about Luke’s story, but has made her mission in educating the community about rescue animals. She is a former teacher in Palm Beach County and has been approved by the School District of Palm Beach County “Safe Schools Program” and the Red Rover Readers Program’s Books with Humane Education Themes. She is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and is registered with the Writer’s Guild of America.
