Baby Steps, Big Steps

Hi Folks, Tom here.

"Tom Who?" you ask?

I'm that fella always running around at The Burren before shows making sure all is in order. Every week, we have up to 10 shows including evenings, brunches and matinees. It's a bear of a job, but I do love it.

Of all my responsibilities at the club nearest and dearest to me is the enormous task of keeping the Brian O'Donovan legacy thriving at this humble pub stage level. Along with the guidance of Lindsay O'Donovan and Tommy McCarthy, my job is to keep our Wednesday Evening and Sunday Matinee series thriving, as well as bring the occasional "Theater Show" to Davis Square.

In keeping the Brian O'Donovan Legacy Series thriving I have 2 major tasks:

A) Keep bringing back the artists you know and love

B) Keep my eyes and ears open for new talent.

This email covers that!

Our audience is one of the most knowledgable groups of folks I've ever met when it comes to Celtic music. I'm all ears for suggestions and I'll keep doing my best!

Please see below what we've got going on so far. And I would love your support for my first venture into, The Somerville Theater!!!

See ya out there! - ToM

SATURDAY FEB 28TH

One of the most influential bands in the history of Irish traditional music, celebrated its twenty fifth anniversary in 2022. Two decades ago they ascended to the forefront of contemporary Irish music, and there they’ve remained, a leading voice in the genre and the standard against which others are compared.

“…state-of-the-art Irish music as aggressively infectious as you’ll ever hear.”

– Dirty Linen (2000)

Brand New Celtic Artists

Coming To The Series!

FORSYTH

Sunday 5/10/26 - 4pm Matinee

Forsyth is a band of 4 amazing local young women self described as a "democratic collective of musicians," that came across my inbox recently. They performed a show for us Upstairs @ McCarthy's and I immediately knew that they should be part of the Brian O'Donovan Legacy Series. Backed with guitar, bouzouki, fiddles and even harmonium, their 4 voices equally lead the way through their songs and stories influenced by Celtic tradition. You do not want to miss these rising stars!!!

ISHNA

Wednesday May 27th - 7:30pm

Ishna was founded in Dublin Ireland by husband-and-wife team Ciaran and Tara. After moving to Boston in 2012, they put this group of musicians together in 2015. Oddly enough, they met all of the players separately, and none of them through playing Irish music (jazz, musical theater, classical, and Italian folk music)! Over the past decade, the group has evolved, honing in specifically on the acoustic traditional music of Ireland, while finding ways to allow each band member to bring their unique musical vocabulary into the overall sound.
