Letter from the Director

To our valued patrons,

At this point, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone not affected by the pandemic. The LPL library staff and trustees are working diligently to continue serving our community in important and meaningful ways.

The library building will remain closed to the public at this time. As they are currently written, the guidelines which we are required to follow in order to reopen for browsing will delay us from doing so until mid-August at the earliest. In the interim, we will continue to provide exceptional online and curbside services.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and greatly appreciate your understanding and support as we work to keep our indispensable staff and patrons as safe as possible while still providing the highest quality service. Please note that other local libraries like those in Townsend, Shirley, and Ashburnham are on a similar timeline. You may check with libraries such as Groton or Leominster if you have an immediate need to visit the interior of a library, as certain factors have made it possible for them to open for browsing earlier than others.

We are not holding in-person library programming at the current time. However, our summer reading program is in full swing with offerings for all ages. Dozens of your neighbors are already participating! Sign up on Beanstack to join in the fun. This summer children, teens, and adults alike can earn chances to win prize baskets. See more information about the Children’s Summer Reading Program here .

Please do not concern yourself with fines at this time. We have made all of the books in our children’s and teen’s areas free of overdue fines , and we are waiving overdue fines for Lunenburg owned items while materials are being quarantined. Library fines are always determined by the owning library. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you are having trouble returning items, need a renewal, or have questions about your items.

Our curbside service will continue to offer the Library’s entire collection of books, DVDs, audiobooks, and magazines. You will receive a notification if you have items available for pickup at our library. Currently, the courier service that brings materials between libraries is still running. Unfortunately, CWMARS libraries are only now beginning to send items out to fulfill holds. Items which are available in the Lunenburg Public Library catalog can be placed on hold, and when the staff takes them off the shelf for you, you will receive an email or text or phone call telling you that the item is ready. Please call us to arrange for an appointment to pick up your items. We will have at least one weeknight evening available for pickup. Our current pickup hours are:
Monday 10-7:45
(extended hours)
Tuesday 10-5:45
Wednesday 10-4:45
Thursday 10-5:45
Saturday 10-1:45

If you need help choosing items for your next read, you can submit your information to our Reader’s Advisory survey and receive personalized recommendations based on what is currently available. If you’d like to see our newest materials, you can subscribe to our Wowbrary notifications or checkout the display widgets that we have on the sidebar of our website .

Wishing you health and safety, with a reminder that kindness and understanding are what makes a community great!

Muir Haman,
Library Director
