With the official start of summer (June 20) right around the corner, remember how deadly keeping your dog unattended in your car can be, even for a short period of time.
If you see a dog locked in a hot car, what can you do? There are only 14 states with "Good Samaritan" laws that permit a person to break into someone's car to rescue a pet - Georgia is NOT one of them.
A new state law in Georgia effective July 2019 does provide immunity to law enforcement who damage cars when rescuing people or pets, so in Georgia, call 911 for assistance.
While waiting for help, take down the car's make, model and tag number and if there are businesses nearby, notify management to make a store-wide announcement to try to locate the owner.
