May Health Theme: Stroke Awareness Month

May is Stroke Awareness Month, a time to learn the signs and symptoms of a stroke and promote ways to prevent strokes from occurring. This year, the American Stroke Association is promoting the B.E. F.A.S.T symptom recognition campaign to make recognizing a stroke easy and to act quickly to prevent disability and death.

City of Lynn Public Health Tick Advisory 2026

Massachusetts is expected to experience an early and active tick season in 2026, with high populations of Blacklegged (Deer) Ticks, American Dog Ticks, and emerging Lone Star Ticks, increasing the risk of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses.

Tick Season and Activity

Tick activity in Massachusetts occurs year-round but peaks twice annually: the first from March/April through August and the second in October-November. The majority of tick-borne disease cases are reported between June and August. In 2026, forecasts predict higher-than-average tick populations, with the season starting earlier and lasting longer than historical averages due to mild winter conditions and favorable climate patterns in the Northeast.

For this years Public Health Week, we held an art contest using the prompt: "What does Public Health

We're excited to announce that we received second round of funding from the Community Transit Grant. The Public Health division is able to continue focusing on issues of mobility and access as it affects Lynn's low-income, senior, and disabled populations.

Our New Board of Health Chairperson: Rocio Mora

On December 9, 2025, Rocio was voted in as the new Lynn Board of Health Chairperson after the retirement of the previous Chairperson, Ron Dupuis.

To give folks an opportunity to learn more about her, we asked:

Where Will Public Health Be?

Join us for our final Dance Workshop series!

For the past few weeks, alongside the Lynn Youth-led Mental Health Committee, we hosted dance work shops that highlighted the different cultures in our city. We started with a Latino workshop in collaboration with the Cultural Latina Dance Academy at Frederick Douglass Park, a Khmer workshop in collaboration with the Kakrona Center at the Lynn Commons, and our final workshop will be Afrobeats in collaboration with Mia Ihegie.

During the month of May, the Lynn Public Health Division attended and hosted many community events.

Join us for "Walking Wednesdays"

To stay active this summer, we will be going on weekly walks around the Lynn Commons. Our "Walking Wednesdays" will start on June 17th from 11:30am - 12pm, meeting in our Community Health Resource Room (rm:108) at Lynn City Hall. This will be reoccurring every Wednesday (weather permitting) until the end of summer.
