We had a great meeting with my TEAM Advisory Committee last week. You’ll recall that TEAM stands for Treasurer’s Education About Money. This is my initiative that brings financial education resources and teacher training to Mississippi schools. It does it all at no cost to the schools, the teachers, the parents, or the students – or the taxpayers. It’s a public-private partnership.
As we near the end of our third year in Mississippi schools, here are some highlights:
1,011 teachers trained
243,000 hours of instruction
Cost per student $1.11
26.8% of 4-12th grade students using an EverFi Learning Course – that’s the highest percentage of any state in the U.S.
Teaching Mississippi students how to be empowered by money, not overwhelmed by it, is good for all of us. It helps lift families out of poverty. It helps young people achieve their dreams. It helps grow our economy. It even makes Mississippi a more attractive place for businesses looking to grow or invest. If your company or a community group you work with is interested in getting involved, give us a call or check out my website to see how you can be a part of this exciting program.
