September is College Savings Month
Governor Bryant has proclaimed September College Savings Month here in Mississippi. To celebrate, come spend the day with Echo the Mockingbird and our College Savings Mississippi team at the Mississippi Children’s Museum this Saturday, September 8. We will have special activities to promote financial literacy and saving for college from 10 am to 2 pm. We will even be giving away two $529 MACS scholarships at 11 am and 1 pm. And, admission to the Mississippi Children’s Museum is only $5.29 all day long!
Opportunities to Find Your Unclaimed Property
Our unclaimed property team will be at the Mississippi State Fair again this year. This is our 6 th year at the Fair, helping residents from all across the State find their unclaimed property. Our booth will be in the Trademart building. In our first five years at the Fair, we helped Fair-goers initiate more than 7,300 claims, returning over $11.2 million to people from all across the State. The Fair runs from Wednesday, October 3 to Sunday, October 14 at the State Fairgrounds in Jackson. Our booth will be open every day.

We will also have a booth at Richland’s Highway 49 Festival on Saturday, September 29 between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Don’t forget you can always check the State’s unclaimed property list, which is available in a searchable, online format on my website, www.treasurerlynnfitch.com .  Since I took office in January 2012, we have distributed over $87 million in unclaimed property, which represents over 54% of all the money distributed through this program since its inception in 1982.
