Race to College Scholarship Contest
Coming Up!
College Savings Mississippi will be offering another great opportunity to win a $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarship at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Baseball Championships at Trustmark Park on May 16 and 17, 2019.

During each of the six championship games, two contestants will be randomly chosen to participate in a relay race. The two contestants will race to designated stations, submitting a mock 529 college savings account application, depositing funds into their 529 account, putting on a backpack to go to school, and finally receiving their cap and gown. The winner of each race will get a $529 MACS scholarship. You can register to enter at the College Savings Mississippi table at the ballpark on either of those two dates.

With the average Mississippi graduate carrying debt of over $30,000, MACS can help a student launch out of school and into their first job without the burden of student loan debt weighing them down. You can learn more about MACS, and also the Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition (MPACT) program, on my website .
Hospitals: You Can Help Newborns
Start Off with a MACS Scholarship Too
To commemorate National 529 College Savings Day, College Savings Mississippi is teaming up with Mississippi hospitals to help two lucky newborns born on May 29 (5/29) go home with $529 already saved for their education.

College Savings Mississippi gives $529 MACS scholarships to the two babies born at or after and closest to 5:29 am and 5:29 pm at participating hospitals across the State. Last year, 19 hospitals participated and one baby from Greenville and one from Tupelo went home with MACS scholarships. All babies born on that day at participating hospitals also went home with an “I’m a 529 baby” bib, as well.

Hospitals interested in participating this year, should contact Natalie Morgan at College Savings Mississippi at 601-359-9272 by May 3.

Thanks to a change in federal tax law in December 2017, MACS is not just for college savings any more. It can also be used to help pay for tuition at private and religious K-12 schools. So, MACS is helping families save for their child’s education from start to finish!
Thank You!
Many thanks to everyone who has made the last two busy weeks so wonderful! I had the opportunity to speak to the Capital Area Sunset Rotary Club, the Mississippi Prosecutors Association, and the Lauderdale, Clarke, and Lafayette County Republican Women’s Clubs. I was sorry that our bad weather kept me from meeting with the Lee County Republican Women, too – but I know I’ll get up there again soon!

I also had the honor of speaking to a law class at my alma mater, Ole Miss Law School, and giving the keynote address at the honors luncheon for the Mississippi College School of Business. And, I spent a wonderful day in Brookhaven with Congressman Michael Guest’s wife, Haley, and attended the Fellowship of Christian Athletes luncheon to hear Mo Isom’s powerful testimony. I always enjoy being out on the road to meet with you, hear your thoughts, and see all the great things you are doing for our State. And, I appreciate the invitations to be with you!
