MPACT Enrollment for 2018-19
Ends on May 31
If you are interested in opening up an MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition) account, you may want to get it done before enrollment closes for the 2018-19 school year. MPACT enrollment is open from September 1 to May 31 each school year, except for newborns who can enroll all year long. You can enroll in MACS (Mississippi Affordable College Savings) throughout the year, as well.

Both plans offer you tax-advantaged savings to help you stretch your money to help pay for your child’s education. MPACT essentially freezes the cost of tuition in time, helping you guard against those rising costs. MACS can be used to pay for not only college tuition, but also some room and board, books, laptops, and even K-12 tuition at a private or religious school.

Are You Going to the MHSAA Baseball Championships This Week?
College Savings Mississippi will be offering another great opportunity to win a $529 MACS scholarship at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Baseball Championships at Trustmark Park this week on May 16 and 17, 2019.

During each of the six championship games, two contestants will be randomly chosen to participate in a relay race. The two contestants will race to designated stations, submitting a mock 529 college savings account application, depositing funds into their 529 account, putting on a backpack to go to school, and finally receiving their cap and gown. The winner of each race will get a $529 MACS scholarship. You can register to enter at the College Savings Mississippi table at the ballpark on either of those two dates.

With the average Mississippi graduate carrying debt of over $30,000, MACS can help a student launch out of school and into their first job without the burden of student loan debt weighing them down. You can learn more about the Race to College Relay at this week’s championships here .
Is Your Baby Due This Month at One of These Hospitals?
To commemorate National 529 College Savings Day, College Savings Mississippi is teaming up with Mississippi hospitals to help two lucky newborns born on May 29 (5/29) go home with $529 already saved for their education.

College Savings Mississippi will give $529 MACS scholarships to the two babies born at or after and closest to 5:29 am and 5:29 pm at participating hospitals across the State. Last year, one baby from Greenville and one from Tupelo went home with MACS scholarships. All babies born on that day at participating hospitals also went home with an “I’m a 529 baby” bib, as well.

This year’s participating hospitals are:

Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto
Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle
Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi
Bolivar Medical Center
Forrest General Hospital
King's Daughters Medical Center
Memorial Hospital Gulfport
Merit Health Central Office
Merit Health Madison
Merit Health River Oaks Hospital
Merit Health River Regional Medical Center
Merit Health Wesley
Merit Health Woman's Hospital
North Mississippi Medical Center
OCH Regional Medical Center
Rush Foundation Hospital
St. Dominic Hospital
University of Mississippi Medical Center

Thanks to a change in federal tax law in December 2017, MACS is not just for college savings any more. It can also be used to help pay for tuition at private and religious K-12 schools. So, MACS can help your family save for your child’s education from start to finish! To learn more about the 529 Day scholarship opportunity, click here .
