Lyon's December Recap
Seasons Greetings,

One semester of seated instruction, with one hiccup of virtual, down! Who would have thought we would tackle such a huge feat!
I am so thankful to our families and staff who value the importance of education. Not only does Lyon value learning, but we know if we are all under the same roof the impact of student growth is greater! We heard great feedback regarding the quality of virtual instruction offered, however, nothing beats seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter in person! Thank you for the sacrifices you have each made to make sure your child is happy, safe, and learning!

Stronger Together,

Mrs. Casey Mitchell, Principal
Mrs. Leanne Gove, Assistant Principal
LEADERSHIP
This month students learned about Habit 4: Think Win Win. Students reflected on the following questions: What is courage? What is consideration?

Ask your child: How can you use courage and consideration when making win-win decisions?
Congratulations to our Student Leaders of the Month for November and December

Learning
Lyon frequently monitors the current reality of student proficiency. As we wrap up the final few days of the 1st semester, teachers are reteaching and retesting students who have not yet shown mastery of grade level standards. Reading benchmarks are also being given to each student to ensure student reading levels are increasing.

Below is a snapshot of current data and actions we are taking in the final stretch of this semester:

Reading:
  • Goal: 80% of students will meet or exceed grade level reading standards
  • Current data: 75.12% of students are meeting grade level reading standards
  • Action steps: Teachers will continue the action steps outlined in the school improvement plan. Teachers are wrapping up semester data collection, so this percentage will continue to be monitored.

Writing:
  • Goal:80% of students will meet or exceed grade level writing standards
  • Current Data: 68.16% of students are meeting grade level writing standards
  • Action Steps: Teachers will continue the action steps outlined in the school improvement plan, with discussion surrounding collaboratively scoring writing pieces to monitor fidelity in scoring.

Math:
  • Goal: 80% of students will meet or exceed grade level math standards
  • Current Data: 78.86% of students are meeting grade level math standards
  • Action Steps: Teachers will continue to follow the outlined steps due to data showing results so close to Lyon's overall goal.
