Lyon's October Updates
Hello Lyon Families,

Happy end of October. To think quarter 1 is done and we are moving on to quarter 2! We appreciate all our families who have adapted to the new 2020-2021 normal and participated in virtual parent-teacher conferences. These are definitely not our first choice, but our teachers are doing an amazing job with the adjustment. We appreciate your grace as we do our best to continuously try to keep us all united.

If you haven't already, please provide your feedback on our district survey. The links and information will be found below. We would appreciate any solutions you can offer to assist us in redefining school as we once knew it and adapt to the changes we are facing.

Stronger Together,

Mrs. Casey Mitchell, Principal
Mrs. Leanne Gove, Assistant Principal
Here is the schedule for The Reading Celebration TOMORROW!

  • All game boards are due on THURSDAY
  • Students are invited to dress up as their favorite book character. Please no Halloween masks (only those used for PPE), no swords or other weapons, and please make sure costumes are functional for the classroom and special classes. Students will not be allowed to change throughout the day.
  • Every student will receive a free book!
  • Students will have the opportunity to STOP, DROP, and READ throughout the day!
  • Fall parties will celebrate reading with book character bingo, scavenger hunts and other fun activities.
  • Winners of the grade level challenges will be announced on Thursday afternoon!
LEADERSHIP
This month students learned about Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind. Students reflected on their goal and decided what steps they needed to take to reach their goal.

Ask your child: What is your goal? How can you take steps today to meet your goal?
Lyon's October Virtual Assembly!
Congratulations to our Student Leaders of the Month

Lead teams look a bit different this year due to social distancing taking place within Lyon. Lyon staff have updated our Wednesday Leader In Me (LIM) days to support new ways to lead at Lyon.
  • 1st Wednesday: “Way to Go Wednesday!”
  • Celebrate goals/update Leadership Binders
  • 2nd Wednesday: Buddy Time
  • Support buddy classrooms virtually while learning more about the 7 Habits
  • 3rd Wednesday: “We Serve Wednesday!”
  • This will replace Lead Teams. The focus will still be on leadership serving both Lyon and our community.
  • 4th Wednesday: Assembly
  • This year we are not letting COVID stop us from celebrating all the efforts around Lyon. We join together through Google Meets to honor leadership, goals, and fun!
Learning
Attendance: Monthly attendance will remain at or above 95.2% with an overall proportional attendance at 96.5%
  • Lyon's current average daily attendance is 94.3% which puts Lyon in the top 2 buildings with the highest attendance thus far.
  • Lyon staff will continue to:
  • focus on processes and procedures to keep students and staff healthy
  • monitor current quarantined students
  • support those missing school with virtual instruction and technology support

Discipline: The goal is to have 126 Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs), or 12 or less ODRs per month. Overarching goal: Students with 3 or more ODRs will make up less than 5% of the student population.
  • Lyon's current discipline referrals are at 35, with the highest amount of discipline infractions occuring on the bus. Lyon currently has 4 students with 3 or more ODRS which meets our goal of less than 5% with multiple office visits.
  • Lyon staff will continue to:
  • meet with the student intervention team to discuss students with 2 or more ODRs, creating a support plan
  • continue to monitor monthly discipline and communicate out proactive solutions to staff and students
  • Continue monthly bus meetings to support tier 1 behaviors

Republic School District invites parents and guardians of our kindergarten through 12th grade students to complete the applicable short survey(s) found at the links below (EC families will receive a separate survey in November). Your feedback allows us to see at what level we are meeting the needs of our students, families and community at large. Preparing each student for a successful future is our mission, and the information gathered through this survey provides us a measure to see how well we are achieving this goal.

IMPORTANT:
1. 100% seated families please ONLY take the designated survey below.
2. 100% virtual families (LAUNCH and other MOCAP programs) please ONLY take the designated survey below. Please complete one survey per virtual learner.
3. Hybrid learning families are asked to complete BOTH surveys to provide feedback on your seated and virtual experiences.

The surveys should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and are open October 19-30. Thank you in advance!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Due to the free meal program many families have not completed the free/reduced meal application which has lowered our free/reduced meal status percentage. This puts the district at risk of losing important funding that supports student literacy growth, Leader in Me resources and various programs that provide needs for our most at-risk learners.

We’re also in need of having a technology form on file for all of our EC and elementary students. Both forms were sent home with students on October 26. Our goal is to have ALL students complete and return BOTH forms by November 24.

To get our students excited about helping with this important task, all students who have 80% of their student return the form earn a movie break in their classroom!

If you need another copy of the form please see the below links:

Thank you in advance for your help in completing and returning both forms by November 24!
