Private Practice Dropped to Less Than 50 Percent of Physicians in 2020 by Carol Kane, PhD for AMA
2020 marked the first year where less than half (49 percent) of physicians were working in a private practice that is owned by physicians, a 5-point drop from 2018 and an 11-point drop from 2012. The shift towards larger practice sizes is accelerating as the percentage of doctors in practices with at least 50 physicians increased from 14.7 to 17.2 percent in 2020.

While 64 percent of healthcare executive respondents say they are focusing on telehealth investments today, there is a growing interest in prioritizing AI investments soon. 34 percent of respondents say they are currently focusing on AI investments and that number grows to 74 percent by 2024.

Post-acquisition: Prices paid to PE dermatologists higher than for non-PE dermatologists by Jack O'Brien for healthleaders
A recent Health Affairs study shows that following an acquisition by a private equity firm, dermatologists were paid 3-5 percent higher for routine visits and saw 5-17 percent more patients than non-PE dermatologists.
