Vicar's Voice

This weekend is the last Sunday in the season of Epiphany, the season that celebrates God declaring God’s self to the whole world. We arrive this Sunday as witnesses to the amazing encounter that three of Jesus's disciples have on the mountain as Jesus is transfigured.

From there (after our scrumtodelicious Shrove Tuesday Feast!) we move to Ash Wednesday with a service at noon, including the imposition of ashes and then onto Lent. I hope that many of you will take up the challenge of doing something affirmatively rather than giving something up for Lent. While there is nothing wrong with giving things up (especially in our consumer oriented society), there are these days a great many things that need to be done and a great many people that need to be cared for. Anyway, give it some thought.

Our Bishop will be visiting us February 22 and we have one confirmation, Ian Gregory, and more are welcome if you desire. If you would like to reaffirm your baptismal vows or be received into The Episcopal Church from another denomination kindly let me know as soon as you can so that we can prepare for this.

During the season of Lent, every Friday at noon, we will have a 15 minute prayer service across the islands on Zoom. Please let me know if you're interested in participating and I will get the Zoom link to you. The thought is that we can pray the Great Litany together and other prayers that call for God's help in these difficult days facing our nation and the world. I encourage as many as possible to participate in this time of reflection and prayer.

I am happy to announce that we have received a grant of approximately $14,000 from a foundation that wishes to remain anonymous. This will help us update our sound system and create a top of the line streaming service for our Sunday services. We are most grateful for the generosity of the donor.

Our Tuesday morning Bible study and healing service is off to a roaring start. Both Tuesdays have been well attended as was the Tuesday evening monthly Bible study for those who are not able to make the daytime events. Please consider joining in these sessions. They don't take a long time and it can help all of us with our understanding of scripture, our relationship with God, and our relationship with each other. I wish you all a wonderful week and I can't wait to see you on Sunday! A hui hou!
