WION Hosts SBE Chapter 102 Picnic!
On August 19, WION-AM (Ionia) co-owner Jim Carlyle and his staff hosted a picnic for West Michigan SBE Chapter 102 (and other guests) on his studio/tower grounds. The weather was great; burgers and hot dogs were on the grill and many radio stories were shared!

If you have a Sage EAS box, the company has posted a new update "CR-Rev6" on their website that must be downloaded and installed by August 21. The Sage update can be found here. Digital Alert Systems has one for download here (right click "save as") with instructions here.
Bob Ellis Named Vice President and General Manager of WDIV Detroit
Graham Media Group, Inc. announced Thursday (8/19) that Bob Ellis has been named Vice President and General Manager of WDIV, the NBC affiliate television station in Detroit, MI. Ellis replaces Marla Drutz, who announced her retirement earlier this year. Read More
Peter C. Cavanaugh Passes at Age 79
The MAB has learned that Flint radio legend Peter C. Cavanaugh passed away August 13 at the age of 79. His family posted word of his death on Facebook. Cavanaugh influenced Flint radio for decades, working at Top 40 WTAC-AM 600 beginning in 1964 and moved on to be the General Manager of WWCK-FM during its heyday as a rock station. Read More
WDET-FM Wins National Murrow Award
On August 17, The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTNDA) announced that Wayne State University's WDET-FM (Detroit) is the recipient of a 2021 national Edward R. Murrow Award. The station won in the Excellence in Innovation category in Large Market Radio for its "COVID Diaries: Stories of Resilience" project. Read More
Rich Juday Joins WLUN-FM as Director of Sales
WLUN-FM (Pinconning/Midland) has announced the hiring of Rich Juday as its next Director of Sales for the radio station. In his role, Juday will oversee the sale and generation of station inventory, including commercial spots, content sponsorships, website advertising and other promotional offers. Read More
T.J. Lang Joins WXYT-FM As Sideline Reporter
Audacy has announced that former NFL Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl champion T.J. Lang has joined WXYT-FM (Detroit) and the Detroit Lions Radio Network. Lang joins Dan Miller and Lomas Brown as the sideline reporter during Lions games. Read More
Dennis Mitchell: 1963-2021
Flint area broadcaster Dennis Mitchell passed away August 17 at age 58, after a long battle with cancer. Mitchell was the morning show host at WQUS-FM (Lapeer/Flint/) in the early 2000s. He later worked for WRSR-FM (Owosso/Flint) and also served as the Commercial Production Director for Cumulus Broadcasting Company's Flint radio group.
