 Want a New Radio Station? FCC Proposes Procedures for a July 2021 Auction, Lists Channels to be Sold, and Imposes a Freeze on Certain Applications

The FCC on Tuesday (2/9) announced plans to hold an auction to award construction permits allowing the winners to build new radio stations. The auction notice includes 136 FM channels and, in a new wrinkle, 4 AM opportunities, for which bids will be able to be placed once the auction commences. Read More

 Michigan Radio Joins Solutions Journalism Partnership to Cover Local Caregivers
Caregivers are in short supply due to a rapidly growing older population that is living longer and requiring more assistance. The caregivers who step up - both family members and those who are paid to do the job -- face many physical, emotional and financial challenges that have been exacerbated by the pandemic.Michigan Radio is part of a new media initiative that aims to shed light on caregivers for older adults and investigate potential solutions to their challenges.  Midwestern Flips WCCW To Classic Country 'WTCM Gold'
Midwestern Broadcasting has flipped sports WCCW-AM (Traverse City) to a classic country format, branded as "WTCM Gold," as a companion to sister station WTCM-FM. The new brand launched on Friday (2/5) replacing ESPN Radio. Positioning as "Yesterday's Country Music" as a play on WTCM-FM's "Today's Country Music" positioner, the station is focusing on Country hits of the '70s through '90s. Read More

 Beasley's WRIF Celebrates 50 Years
Beasley Media Group has unveiled details of the upcoming celebration of 101 WRIF's 50th Anniversary Celebration in Detroit, Michigan! Sunday (2/14) will mark the official day the station went live on the air in the Motor City. Back in 1971, the station changed call letters from "WXYZ" to the iconic "WRIF" call letters that are now known as Detroit's preeminent active rock station. Read More
