The Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the MAB Foundation are pleased to announce the 2017 Hall of Fame Inductees and the Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, to be honored Tuesday, August 22 at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville.
This year's Lifetime Achievement Award honor goes to Marla Drutz, Vice-President and General Manager of WDIV-TV (Detroit).

July 1: Captioning Deadline. Television stations must be captioning clips of live or near-live TV programming used on their websites or mobile apps. This applies to all Full Power or Class A TV stations.
July 10: Issues/Programs List for Q2-2017 due in Public Inspection File.
July 10: Children's Television Reports Due. Records showing compliance with commercial limits on Children's Television Programming during Q2-2017 must be included in station's public inspection files. Also, Children's Television Programming Reports for Q2-2017 must be filed with the FCC and included in the stations' public inspection files.
July 10: Class A Television Station Documentation Due. Documentation of Class A Television continuing eligibility should be included in stations' public inspection files on this date. |

Time is Running Out for AMC-8
Radio stations airing programming from any of the major network suppliers only have until June 30 to shift their satellite dishes from AMC-8 to the new AMC-18 satellite, at 105 degrees West latitude. Read more here... |

FCC Announces Auction Filing Window for AM Stations Seeking FM Translators
As part of it's AM "revitalization" initiative, the FCC has announced the first auction filing window for AM stations seeking new FM translators.

Comment Period Open on Eliminating Main Studio Rule
With publication in the Federal Register on June 2,
the FCC is now seeking comments on the proposed elimination of the main studio rule. Comments are due on or before July 3 and reply comments are due on or before July 17, 2017.

Former MAB Board President Tom Scanlan Passes
The MAB is sad to pass along the news that
former Board President Tom Scanlan passed away June 1 in Tucson, Arizona. He was 76 years old. Scanlan worked in the broadcast industry for nearly 50 years, 39 of which were spent in the state of Michigan.

Nexstar Media Group Inc. has announced that Julie Brinks has been named Vice President and General Manager of WOOD-TV (NBC), WOTV-TV (ABC) and WXSP-TV (My Network) and associated digital services including woodtv.com and wotv4women.com, serving Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, MI (DMA #44). After 40 years of tracking the Midwest skies,
Jim "Mad Dog" Madaus has retired. The longtime chief meteorologist at
WWJ-TV (Detroit) officially signed off from the television station after his 11 p.m. broadcast on May 31.
